MFLCN register is used to set Rx flow control on parts newer than 82598. This patch sends the value of MFLCN to ethtool, so it can be used in a register dump (ethtool -d). This patch is meant to help cleanup the interrupt throttle rate logic by storing the interrupt throttle rate as a value in microseconds instead of interrupts per second. The advantage to this approach is that the value can now be stored in an 16 bit field and doesn't require as much math to flip the value back and forth since the hardware already used microseconds when setting the rate. This patch improves the memory utilization with RSC when in one-buffer mode. This is accomplished by making the default buffer sizes match up with the standard memory allocation sizes minus 1K for shared info and padding overhead. By doing this CPU utilization when doing large receives can be reduced by as much as 8%. A user-space process must use ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLCNT to find the number of classification rules, then allocate a buffer of the right size, then use ETHTOOL_GRXCLSRLALL to fill the buffer. If some other process inserts or deletes a rule between those two operations, the user buffer might turn out to be the wrong size. If it's too small, the return value will be -EMSGSIZE. Correct the description of ethtool_rxnfc::rule_locs; it is an array of currently used locations, not all possible valid locations. Add note that drivers must not use ethtool_rxnfc::rule_locs. The rule_locs argument to ethtool_ops::get_rxnfc is either NULL or a pointer to an array of u32, so change the parameter type accordingly. after review of all intel drivers, found several instances where drivers had the incorrect pattern of: memory mapped write(); delay(); which should always be: memory mapped write(); write flush(); /* aka memory mapped read */ delay(); explanation: The reason for including the flush is that writes can be held (posted) in PCI/PCIe bridges, but the read always has to complete synchronously and therefore has to flush all pending writes to a device. Private rx_csum flags are now duplicate of netdev->features & NETIF_F_RXCSUM. We remove those duplicates and now use the net_device_ops ndo_set_features. This was based on the original patch submitted by Michal Miroslaw <mirq-linux@rere.qmqm.pl>. I also removed the special case not requiring a reset for X540 hardware. It is needed just as it is in 82599 hardware. This change moves work_limit, total_packets, and total_bytes into the ring container struct of the q_vector. The advantage of this is that it should reduce the size of memory used in the event of multiple rings being assigned to a single q_vector. In addition it should help to reduce the total workload for calculating itr since now total_packets and total_bytes will be the total work done of the interrupt instead of for the ring. This patch adds support for a ring container structure to be used within the q_vector. The basic idea is to provide a means of separating the RX and TX rings while maintaining a common structure for their containment. The advantage to this is that later we should be able to pass this structure to the update_itr functions without needing to pass individual rings. This change fixes the fact that we would trigger a null pointer dereference or specify the wrong ring if the rings were restored. This change makes certain that the DROP queue is a static value, and all other rings are based on the ring offsets for the PF. I am removing the requirement that Ntuple filters have the same number of queues and requirements as ATR. As a result this change will make it so that all the Ntuple flag does is disable ATR for now. This change fixes an issue in which we were incorrectly re-enabling ATR when we exited perfect filter mode. This was due to the fact that the logic assumed RSS and DCB were mutually exclusive which is no longer the case. To correct this we just need to add a check to guarantee DCB is disabled before re-enabling ATR. This change merges the ATR table reinitialization into the service task. This is yet another opportunity to avoid any race conditions as we don't want to be attempting to reinitialize the table during a possible reset. In addition this change adds a counter for table reinitialization so that it can be tracked as part of the regular statistics. Introduce buffered read/writes which greatly improves performance on parts with large EEPROMs. Previously reading/writing a word requires taking/releasing of synchronization semaphores which adds 10ms to each operation. The optimization is to read/write in buffers, but make sure the semaphore is not held for >500ms according to the datasheet. Since we can't read the EEPROM page size ixgbe_detect_eeprom_page_size() is used to discover the EEPROM size when needed and keeps the result in word_page_size for the rest of the run time. Use buffered reads for ethtool -e. This updates the network drivers so that they don't access the ethtool_cmd::speed field directly, but use ethtool_cmd_speed() instead. For most of the drivers, these changes are purely cosmetic and don't fix any problem, such as for those 1GbE/10GbE drivers that indirectly call their own ethtool get_settings()/mii_ethtool_gset(). The changes are meant to enforce code consistency and provide robustness with future larger throughputs, at the expense of a few CPU cycles for each ethtool operation. All drivers compiled with make allyesconfig ion x86_64 have been updated. On X540 we need to set the MACC.FLU bit to 1 in order to force the link up before entering MAC loopback. This is only used in the ethtool loopback test, which was failing. This patch corrects it. This change fixes several issues found in ntuple filtering while I was doing the ATR refactor. Specifically I updated the masks to work correctly with the latest version of ethtool, I cleaned up the exception handling and added detailed error output when a filter is rejected, and corrected several bits that were set incorrectly in ixgbe_type.h. The previous version of this patch included a printk that was left over from me fixing the filter setup. This patch does not include that printk.
