ea530692 made a CPU use monitor/mwait when offline. This is not the optimal choice for AMD wrt to powersavings and we'd prefer our cores to halt (i.e. enter C1) instead. For this, the same selection whether to use monitor/mwait has to be used as when we select the idle routine for the machine. With this patch, offlining cores 1-5 on a X6 machine allows core0 to boost again. boot_cpu_id is there for historical reasons and was renamed to boot_cpu_physical_apicid in patch: c70dcb74 x86: change boot_cpu_id to boot_cpu_physical_apicid However, there are some remaining occurrences of boot_cpu_id that are never touched in the kernel and thus its value is always 0. This patch removes boot_cpu_id completely. Signed-off-by: NRobert Richter <robert.richter@amd.com> LKML-Reference: <1279731838-1522-8-git-send-email-robert.richter@amd.com> Signed-off-by: NH. This patch is the result of an automatic script that consolidates the format of all the headers in include/asm-x86/. The format: 1. No leading underscore. Names with leading underscores are reserved. 2. Pathname components are separated by two underscores. So we can distinguish between mm_types.h and mm/types.h. 3. Everything except letters and numbers are turned into single underscores. Signed-off-by: NVegard Nossum <vegard.nossum@gmail.com>

Avoid section mismatch involving arch_register_cpu. Marking arch_register_cpu as __init and removing the export for non-hotplug-cpu configurations makes the following warning go away: Section mismatch in reference from the function arch_register_cpu() to the function .devinit.text:register_cpu() The function arch_register_cpu() references the function __devinit register_cpu(). This is often because arch_register_cpu lacks a __devinit annotation or the annotation of register_cpu is wrong. The only external user of arch_register_cpu in the tree is in drivers/acpi/processor_core.c where it is guarded by ACPI_HOTPLUG_CPU (which depends on HOTPLUG_CPU). When new node becomes enable by hot-add, new sysfs file must be created for new node. So, if new node is enabled by add_memory(), register_one_node() is called to create it. In addition, I386's arch_register_node() and a part of register_nodes() of powerpc are consolidated to register_one_node() as a generic_code(). This is tested by Tiger4(IPF) with node hot-plug emulation. (The i386 CPU hotplug patch provides infrastructure for some work which Pavel is doing as well as for ACPI S3 (suspend-to-RAM) work which Li Shaohua <shaohua.li@intel.com> is doing) The following provides i386 architecture support for safely unregistering and registering processors during runtime, updated for the current -mm tree. In order to avoid dumping cpu hotplug code into kernel/irq/* i dropped the cpu_online check in do_IRQ() by modifying fixup_irqs(). The difference being that on cpu offline, fixup_irqs() is called before we clear the cpu from cpu_online_map and a long delay in order to ensure that we never have any queued external interrupts on the APICs. There are additional changes to s390 and ppc64 to account for this change. 1) Add CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU 2) disable local APIC timer on dead cpus. 3) Disable preempt around irq balancing to prevent CPUs going down. 4) Print irq stats for all possible cpus. 5) Debugging check for interrupts on offline cpus. 6) Hacky fixup_irqs() to redirect irqs when cpus go off/online. 7) play_dead() for offline cpus to spin inside. 8) Handle offline cpus set in flush_tlb_others(). 9) Grab lock earlier in smp_call_function() to prevent CPUs going down. 10) Implement __cpu_disable() and __cpu_die(). 11) Enable local interrupts in cpu_enable() after fixup_irqs() 12) Don't fiddle with NMI on dead cpu, but leave intact on other cpus. 13) Program IRQ affinity whilst cpu is still in cpu_online_map on offline. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
