The e1000 driver currently does not protect concurrent accesses to the PHY from both the ethtool callbacks, and from the e1000_watchdog function. This patchs adds a new spinlock which is used by e1000_{read,write}_phy_reg in order to serialize concurrent accesses to the PHY. after review of all intel drivers, found several instances where drivers had the incorrect pattern of: memory mapped write(); delay(); which should always be: memory mapped write(); write flush(); /* aka memory mapped read */ delay(); explanation: The reason for including the flush is that writes can be held (posted) in PCI/PCIe bridges, but the read always has to complete synchronously and therefore has to flush all pending writes to a device. If a write is held and followed by a delay, the delay means nothing because the write may not have reached hardware (maybe even not until the next read) Signed-off-by: NJesse Brandeburg <jesse.brandeburg@intel.com> Tested-by: NAaron Brown <aaron.f.brown@intel.com> Signed-off-by: NJeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com>

This patch is an alternative to similar patch provided by Joe Perches. Substitute DPRINTK macro for e_<level> that uses netdev_<level> and dev_<level> similar to e1000e. - Convert printk to pr_<level> where applicable. - Use common #define pr_fmt for the driver. - Use dev_<level> for displaying text in parts of the driver where the interface name is not assigned (like e1000_param.c). - Better align test with the new macros. when testing the jumbo frames with pages patch, the stats would show rx_missed errors (dropped packets) even when connected to a link partner with flow control enabled. this indicates that for this MTU (9000) the flow control thresholds are not adjusting correctly. In fact, before this change, the FCRTH (xoff threshold) is 36864 when the fifo size is only 40000, with 9000 byte MTU. fix it so that we at least have room for one frame after we send the xoff.
