commit b926b7f3baecb2a855db629e6822e1a85212e91c upstream HMM consumes physical address space for its own use, even though nothing is mapped or accessible there. It uses a special resource description (IORES_DESC_DEVICE_PRIVATE_MEMORY) to uniquely identify these areas. When HMM consumes address space, it makes a best guess about what to consume. However, it is possible that a future memory or device hotplug can collide with the reserved area. In the case of these conflicts, there is an error message in register_memory_resource(). Later patches in this series move register_memory_resource() from using request_resource_conflict() to __request_region(). Unfortunately, __request_region() does not return the conflict like the previous function did, which makes it impossible to check for IORES_DESC_DEVICE_PRIVATE_MEMORY in a conflicting resource. Instead of warning in register_memory_resource(), move the check into the core resource code itself (__request_region()) where the conflicting resource _is_ available. This has the added bonus of producing a warning in case of HMM conflicts with devices *or* RAM address space, as opposed to the RAM- only warnings that were there previously. commit 5cd401ace914dc68556c6d2fcae0c349444d5f86 upstream walk_system_ram_range() can return an error code either becuase *it* failed, or because the 'func' that it calls returned an error. The memory hotplug does the following: ret = walk_system_ram_range(..., func); if (ret) return ret; and 'ret' makes it out to userspace, eventually. The problem s, walk_system_ram_range() failues that result from *it* failing (as opposed to 'func') return -1. That leads to a very odd -EPERM (-1) return code out to userspace. Make walk_system_ram_range() return -EINVAL for internal failures to keep userspace less confused. This return code is compatible with all the callers that I audited. commit 65c78784135f847e49eb98e6b976e453e71100c3 upstream This is a preparation for the next patch. Currently, we only call release_mem_region_adjustable() in __remove_pages if the zone is not ZONE_DEVICE, because resources that belong to HMM/devm are being released by themselves with devm_release_mem_region. Since we do not want to touch any zone/page stuff during the removing of the memory (but during the offlining), we do not want to check for the zone here. So we need another way to tell release_mem_region_adjustable() to not realease the resource in case it belongs to HMM/devm. HMM/devm acquires/releases a resource through devm_request_mem_region/devm_release_mem_region. These resources have the flag IORESOURCE_MEM, while resources acquired by hot-add memory path (register_memory_resource()) contain IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM. So, we can check for this flag in release_mem_region_adjustable, and if the resource does not contain such flag, we know that we are dealing with a HMM/devm resource, so we can back off. commit c347bd71dcdb2d0ac8b3a771486584dca8c8dd80 upstream Add a 'modalias' attribute to devices under the DAX bus so that userspace is able to dynamically load modules as needed. Normally, udev can get the modalias from 'uevent', and that is correctly set up by the DAX bus. However other tooling such as 'libndctl' for interacting with drivers/nvdimm/, and 'libdaxctl' for drivers/dax/ can also use the modalias to dynamically load modules via libkmod lookups. The 'nd' bus set up by the libnvdimm subsystem exports a modalias attribute. Imitate this to export the same for the 'dax' bus. commit 8fc5c73554db0ac18c0c6ac5b2099ab917f83bdf upstream Persistent memory, as described by the ACPI NFIT (NVDIMM Firmware Interface Table), is the first known instance of a memory range described by a unique "target" proximity domain. Where "initiator" and "target" proximity domains is an approach that the ACPI HMAT (Heterogeneous Memory Attributes Table) uses to described the unique performance properties of a memory range relative to a given initiator (e.g. CPU or DMA device). Currently the numa-node for a /dev/pmemX block-device or /dev/daxX.Y char-device follows the traditional notion of 'numa-node' where the attribute conveys the closest online numa-node. That numa-node attribute is useful for cpu-binding and memory-binding processes *near* the device. However, when the memory range backing a 'pmem', or 'dax' device is onlined (memory hot-add) the memory-only-numa-node representing that address needs to be differentiated from the set of online nodes. In other words, the numa-node association of the device depends on whether you can bind processes *near* the cpu-numa-node in the offline device-case, or bind process *on* the memory-range directly after the backing address range is onlined. Allow for the case that platform firmware describes persistent memory with a unique proximity domain, i.e. when it is distinct from the proximity of DRAM and CPUs that are on the same socket. Plumb the Linux numa-node translation of that proximity through the libnvdimm region device to namespaces that are in device-dax mode. With this in place the proposed kmem driver [1] can optionally discover a unique numa-node number for the address range as it transitions the memory from an offline state managed by a device-driver to an online memory range managed by the core-mm. commit 8fbfb6fc67819c1274584ff902f7d03aafe38dab upstream. There are two per CPU data needs to be stored and cached to avoid repeated MSR readings for accessing them later: - Physical to logical CPU conversion The PUNIT uses a different CPU numbering scheme which is not APIC id based. So we need to establish relationship between PUNIT CPU number and Linux logical CPU numbering which is based on APIC id. There is an MSR 0x53 (MSR_THREAD_ID), which gets physical CPU number for the local CPU where it is read. Also the CPU mask in some messages will inform which CPUs needs to be online/offline for a TDP level. During TDP switch if user offlined some CPUs, then the physical CPU mask can't be converted as we can't read MSR on an offlined CPU to go to a lower TDP level by onlining more CPUs. So the mapping needs to be established at the boot up time. - Bus number corresponding to a CPU A group of CPUs are in a control of a PUNIT. The PUNIT device is exported as PCI device. To do operation on a PUNIT for a CPU, we need to find out to which PCI device it is related to. This is done by reading MSR 0x128 (MSR_CPU_BUS_NUMBER). So during CPU online stages the above MSRs are read and stored. Later this stored information is used to process IOCTLs request from the user space. commit 35f2c14d2a076b063a76c5bf275c46c0743ba3a0 upstream. Encapsulate common functions which all Intel Speed Select Technology interface drivers can use. This creates API to register misc device for user kernel communication and handle all common IOCTLs. As part of the registry it allows a callback which is to handle domain specific ioctl processing. There can be multiple drivers register for services, which can be built as modules. So this driver handle contention during registry and as well as during removal. Once user space opened the misc device, the registered driver will be prevented from removal. Also once misc device is opened by the user space new client driver can't register, till the misc device is closed. If there aren't memory DIMMs populated on the first channel, but at least one DIMM populated on the second channel, it will wrongly report that the ECC for the memory controller is disabled that fails to load the i10nm_edac driver. commit fe783516e3016652b74ac92fb8b3fc2b1c0e9d5b upstream. The following Kconfig constellations fail randconfig builds: CONFIG_ACPI_NFIT=y CONFIG_EDAC_DEBUG=y CONFIG_EDAC_SKX=m CONFIG_EDAC_I10NM=y or CONFIG_ACPI_NFIT=y CONFIG_EDAC_DEBUG=y CONFIG_EDAC_SKX=y CONFIG_EDAC_I10NM=m with: ... CC [M] drivers/edac/skx_common.o ... .../skx_common.o:.../skx_common.c:672: undefined reference to `__this_module' That is because if one of the two drivers - skx_edac or i10nm_edac - is built-in and the other one is a module, the shared file skx_common.c gets linked into a module object by kbuild. Therefore, when linking that same file into vmlinux, the '__this_module' symbol used in debugfs isn't defined, leading to the above error. Fix it by moving all debugfs code from skx_common.c to both skx_base.c and i10nm_base.c respectively. Thus, skx_common.c doesn't refer to the '__this_module' symbol anymore. Clarify skx_common.c's purpose at the top of the file for future reference, while at it. commit d4dc89d069aab9074e2493a4c2f3969a0a0b91c1 upstream. This driver supports the Intel 10nm series server integrated memory controller. It gets the memory capacity and topology information by reading the registers in PCI configuration space and memory-mapped I/O. It decodes the memory error address to the platform specific address by using the ACPI Address Translation (ADXL) Device Specific Method (DSM). commit 24c9d423e86b17b25b4b510e81f10aa232fdaa60 upstream. It was previously noted that Kconfig complained about unmet dependencies when trying to configure skx_edac together with CONFIG_ACPI=n. First fix for this checked for ACPI when doing select ACPI_ADXL but this required stub functions for the case where ACPI wasn't selected. It also allowed building a driver that didn't actually work for a system that has non-volatile DIMMs. Arnd Bergmann pointed out that the right fix is to make EDAC_SKX "depend on ACPI". commit abcfaeb3f5dc8bded4ba446eb2fb017a7a41d9bc upstream. intel_rapl driver used to have a list of cpuids, which is used to 1. check if the processor support RAPL MSRs 2. do some cpu model specific setting 3. module autoloading Now, the cpu model specific setting are moved to intel_rapl_common.c as part of the common code, because the setup is also needed by RAPL MMIO interface on those platforms. But removing the cpuid list from intel_rapl MSR interface driver results in that the driver can not be loaded automatically. Maintaining another copy of the cpuid list in intel_rapl_msr.c does not make sense because it increases the complexity when enabling RAPL support on a new cpu model. Fix the problem by creating an "intel_rapl_msr" platform device in the common code, and make RAPL MSR interface driver (intel_rapl_msr.c) probe the platform device directly.
