FRV: Fix the section attribute on UP DECLARE_PER_CPU() · 9b8de747
      David Howells 提交于
In non-SMP mode, the variable section attribute specified by DECLARE_PER_CPU()
does not agree with that specified by DEFINE_PER_CPU(). This means that
architectures that have a small data section references relative to a base
register may throw up linkage errors due to too great a displacement between
where the base register points and the per-CPU variable.

On FRV, the .h declaration says that the variable is in the .sdata section, but
the .c definition says it's actually in the .data section. The linker throws
      up the following errors:

      kernel/built-in.o: In function `release_task':
kernel/exit.c:78: relocation truncated to fit: R_FRV_GPREL12 against symbol `per_cpu__process_counts' defined in .data section in kernel/built-in.o
kernel/exit.c:78: relocation truncated to fit: R_FRV_GPREL12 against symbol `per_cpu__process_counts' defined in .data section in kernel/built-in.o

To fix this, DECLARE_PER_CPU() should simply apply the same section attribute
as does DEFINE_PER_CPU(). However, this is made slightly more complex by
virtue of the fact that there are several variants on DEFINE, so these need to
be matched by variants on DECLARE.

      [IA64] fix allmodconfig compilation breakage. · 05f0ecbd
      Isaku Yamahata 提交于
This patch fixes the following compilation error caused by recursive
inclusion of kernel.h which defines BUILD_BUG_ON().
In this case, the case it catches will be caught by the case
CONFIG_PARAVIRT=n, so removing it would not hurt compile time check
very much. So fix the breakage by removing it.

      proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::owner · 99b76233
      Alexey Dobriyan 提交于
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy
as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL
->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting
      in module refcount underflow.

We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops
      and ->data.

But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment)
and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when
switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give
      some thoughts.

->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for
      protection.

rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm.
And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular.
We definitely don't want such modular code.

Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller.

      So, let's nuke it.

Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight.

      generic compat_sys_ustat · 2b1c6bd7
      Christoph Hellwig 提交于
Due to a different size of ino_t ustat needs a compat handler, but
currently only x86 and mips provide one. Add a generic compat_sys_ustat
and switch all architectures over to it. Instead of doing various
user copy hacks compat_sys_ustat just reimplements sys_ustat as
it's trivial. This was suggested by Arnd Bergmann.

Found by Eric Sandeen when running xfstests/017 on ppc64, which causes
stack smashing warnings on RHEL/Fedora due to the too large amount of
      data writen by the syscall.
