The function handle_ldf_stq() deals with no-fault ASI loads and stores, but restricts fp registers to quad word regs (ie, %f0, %f4 etc). This is valid for the STQ case, but unnecessarily restricts loads, which may be single precision, double, or quad. This results in SIGFPE being raised for this instruction when the source address is invalid: ldda [%g1] ASI_PNF, %f2 but not for this one: ldda [%g1] ASI_PNF, %f4 The validation check for quad register is moved to within the STQ block so that loads are not affected by the check. An additional problem is that the calculation for freg is incorrect when a single precision load is being handled. This causes %f1 to be seen as %f32 etc, and the incorrect register ends up being overwritten. This code sequence demonstrates the problem: ldd [%g1], %f32 ! g1 = valid address lda [%i3] ASI_PNF, %f1 ! i3 = invalid address std %f32, [%g1] This is corrected by basing the freg calculation on the load size. The value returned from iommu_tbl_range_alloc() (and the one passed in as a fourth argument to iommu_tbl_range_free) is not a DMA address, it is rather an index into the IOMMU page table. Therefore using DMA_ERROR_CODE is not appropriate. Use a more type matching error code define, IOMMU_ERROR_CODE, and update all users of this interface. Processes are getting killed (sigbus or segv) while walking userspace callchains when using perf. In some instances I have seen ufp = 0x7ff which does not seem like a proper stack address. This patch adds a function to run validity checks against the address before attempting the copy_from_user. This replaces the plain loop over the sglist array with for_each_sg() macro which consists of sg_next() function calls. Since sparc does select ARCH_HAS_SG_CHAIN, it is necessary to use for_each_sg() in order to loop over each sg element. On Sparc systems, update_persistent_clock() uses RTC drivers to do the job, it makes more sense to hand it over to CONFIG_RTC_SYSTOHC. In the long run, all the update_persistent_clock() should migrate to proper class RTC drivers if any and use CONFIG_RTC_SYSTOHC instead. sparc: Resolve conflict between sparc v9 and M7 on usage of bit 9 of TTE Bit 9 of TTE is CV (Cacheable in V-cache) on sparc v9 processor while the same bit 9 is MCDE (Memory Corruption Detection Enable) on M7 processor. This creates a conflicting usage of the same bit. Kernel sets TTE.cv bit on all pages for sun4v architecture which works well for sparc v9 but enables memory corruption detection on M7 processor which is not the intent. This patch adds code to determine if kernel is running on M7 processor and takes steps to not enable memory corruption detection in TTE erroneously. Add PCI slot numbers within sysfs for PCIe hardware. Larger PCIe systems with nested PCI bridges and slots further down on these bridges were not being populated within sysfs. This will add ACPI style PCI slot numbers for these systems since the OF 'slot-names' information is not available on all PCIe platforms. In iperf experiments running linux as the Tx side (TCP client) with 10 threads results in a severe performance drop when TSO is disabled, indicating a weakness in the software that can be avoided by using the scalable IOMMU arena DMA allocation. Baseline numbers before this patch: with default settings (TSO enabled) : 9-9.5 Gbps Disable TSO using ethtool- drops badly: 2-3 Gbps. After this patch, iperf client with 10 threads, can give a throughput of at least 8.5 Gbps, even when TSO is disabled. Commit 920c3ed7 ("[SPARC64]: Add basic infrastructure for MD add/remove notification") has added __GFP_NOFAIL for the allocation request but it hasn't mentioned why is this strict requirement really needed. The code was handling an allocation failure and propagated it properly up the callchain so it is not clear why it is needed. Dave has clarified the intention when I tried to remove the flag as not being necessary: : It is a serious failure. : : If we miss an MDESC update due to this allocation failure, the update : is not an event which gets retransmitted so we will lose the updated : machine description forever. : : We really need this allocation to succeed. So add a comment to clarify the nofail flag and get rid of the failure check because __GFP_NOFAIL allocation doesn't fail. With the increase in number of CPUs calls to functions that dump output to console (e.g., arch_trigger_all_cpu_backtrace) can take a long time to complete. If IRQs are disabled eventually the NMI watchdog kicks in and creates more havoc. Avoid by telling the NMI watchdog everything is ok. Previously, pci_scan_root_bus() created a root PCI bus, enumerated the devices on it, and called pci_bus_add_devices(), which made the devices available for drivers to claim them. Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_root_bus() returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. While cleaning up some clocksource code, I noticed the time_32 implementation uses the clocksource_hz2mult() helper, but doesn't use the clocksource_register_hz() method. I don't believe the Sparc clocksource is a default clocksource, so we shouldn't need to self-define the mult/shift pair. So convert the time_32.c implementation to use clocksource_register_hz(). A long running project has been to clean up remaining uses of clocksource_register(), replacing it with the simpler clocksource_register_khz/hz() functions. However, there are a few cases where we need to self-define our mult/shift values, so switch the function to a more obviously internal __clocksource_register() name, and consolidate much of the internal logic so we don't have duplication. Since SEMCTL is defined as 3, and SEMTIMEDOP is defined as 4, the comparison "call <= SEMCTL" will always prevent SEMTIMEDOP from getting through to the semaphore ops switch statement. "echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger" does not result in a system crash. There are two problems. One is that the trap handler ignores the global variable, panic_on_oops. For instrumenting global variables KASan will shadow memory backing memory for modules. So on module loading we will need to allocate memory for shadow and map it at address in shadow that corresponds to the address allocated in module_alloc(). __vmalloc_node_range() could be used for this purpose, except it puts a guard hole after allocated area. Guard hole in shadow memory should be a problem because at some future point we might need to have a shadow memory at address occupied by guard hole. So we could fail to allocate shadow for module_alloc(). Now we have VM_NO_GUARD flag disabling guard page, so we need to pass into __vmalloc_node_range(). Add new parameter 'vm_flags' to __vmalloc_node_range() function. If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. Every PCI-PCI bridge window should fit inside an upstream bridge window because orphaned address space is unreachable from the primary side of the upstream bridge. If we inherit invalid bridge windows that overlap an upstream window from firmware, clip them to fit and update the bridge accordingly.
