Kim Phillips reported following build failure. LD init/built-in.o mm/built-in.o: In function `free_pages_prepare': mm/page_alloc.c:770: undefined reference to `.kernel_map_pages' mm/built-in.o: In function `prep_new_page': mm/page_alloc.c:933: undefined reference to `.kernel_map_pages' mm/built-in.o: In function `map_pages': mm/compaction.c:61: undefined reference to `.kernel_map_pages' make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1 Reason for this problem is that commit 031bc574 ("mm/debug-pagealloc: make debug-pagealloc boottime configurable") forgot to remove the old declaration of kernel_map_pages() for some architectures. This patch removes them to fix build failure. And now the function flush_icache_range() is just a wrapper which only invoke the function __flush_icache_range() directly. So we don't have reason to keep it anymore. Signed-off-by: NKevin Hao <haokexin@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: NBenjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org>

In function flush_icache_range(), we use cpu_has_feature() to test the feature bit of CPU_FTR_COHERENT_ICACHE. But this seems not optimal for two reasons: a) For ppc32, the function __flush_icache_range() already do this check with the macro END_FTR_SECTION_IFSET. b) Compare with the cpu_has_feature(), the method of using macro END_FTR_SECTION_IFSET will not introduce any runtime overhead. Add support to disable and re-enable individual cores at runtime on MPC85xx/QorIQ SMP machines. Currently support e500v1/e500v2 core. MPC85xx machines use ePAPR spin-table in boot page for CPU kick-off. This patch uses the boot page from bootloader to boot core at runtime. It supports 32-bit and 36-bit physical address. Mtdblock driver doesn't call flush_dcache_page for pages in request. So, this causes problems on architectures where the icache doesn't fill from the dcache or with dcache aliases. The patch fixes this. The ARCH_IMPLEMENTS_FLUSH_DCACHE_PAGE symbol was introduced to avoid pointless empty cache-thrashing loops on architectures for which flush_dcache_page() is a no-op. Every architecture was provided with this flush pages on architectires where ARCH_IMPLEMENTS_FLUSH_DCACHE_PAGE is equal 1 or do nothing otherwise. See "fix mtd_blkdevs problem with caches on some architectures" discussion on LKML for more information. from include/asm-powerpc. This is the result of a mkdir arch/powerpc/include/asm git mv include/asm-powerpc/* arch/powerpc/include/asm Followed by a few documentation/comment fixups and a couple of places where <asm-powepc/...> was being used explicitly. Of the latter only one was outside the arch code and it is a driver only built for powerpc. Signed-off-by: NStephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au> Signed-off-by: NPaul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

Virtually index, physically tagged cache architectures can get away without cache flushing when forking. This patch adds a new cache flushing function flush_cache_dup_mm(struct mm_struct *) which for the moment I've implemented to do the same thing on all architectures except on MIPS where it's a no-op. The ppc32 and ppc64 versions of cacheflush.h were almost identical. The two versions of cache.h are fairly similar, except for a bunch of register definitions in the ppc32 version which probably belong better elsewhere. This patch, therefore, merges both headers. Notable points: - there are several functions in cacheflush.h which exist only on ppc32 or only on ppc64. These are handled by #ifdef for now, but these should probably be consolidated, along with the actual code behind them later. - Confusingly, both ppc32 and ppc64 have a flush_dcache_range(), but they're subtly different: it uses dcbf on ppc32 and dcbst on ppc64, ppc64 has a flush_inval_dcache_range() which uses dcbf. These too should be merged and consolidated later. - Also flush_dcache_range() was defined in cacheflush.h on ppc64, and in cache.h on ppc32. In the merged version it's in cacheflush.h - On ppc32 flush_icache_range() is a normal function from misc.S. On ppc64, it was wrapper, testing a feature bit before calling __flush_icache_range() which does the actual flush. This patch takes the ppc64 approach, which amounts to no change on ppc32, since CPU_FTR_COHERENT_ICACHE will never be set there, but does mean renaming flush_icache_range() to __flush_icache_range() in arch/ppc/kernel/misc.S and arch/powerpc/kernel/misc_32.S - The PReP register info from asm-ppc/cache.h has moved to arch/ppc/platforms/prep_setup.c - The 8xx register info from asm-ppc/cache.h has moved to a new asm-powerpc/reg_8xx.h, included from reg.h - flush_dcache_all() was defined on ppc32 (only), but was never called (although it was exported). Thus this patch removes it from cacheflush.h and from ARCH=powerpc (misc_32.S) entirely. It's left in ARCH=ppc for now, with the prototype moved to ppc_ksyms.c. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
