GEM allows the creation of persistent buffer objects accessible by the graphics device through new ioctls for managing execution of commands on the device. The userland API is almost entirely driver-specific to ensure that any driver building on this model can easily map the interface to individual driver requirements. GEM is used by the 2d driver for managing its internal state allocations and will be used for pixmap storage to reduce memory consumption and enable zero-copy GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, and in the 3d driver is used to enable GL_EXT_framebuffer_object and GL_ARB_pixel_buffer_object. Previously, drivers supporting vblank interrupt waits would run the interrupt all the time, or all the time that any 3d client was running, preventing the CPU from sleeping for long when the system was otherwise idle. Now, interrupts are disabled any time that no client is waiting on a vblank event. The new method uses vblank counters on the chipsets when the interrupts are turned off, rather than counting interrupts, so that we can continue to present accurate vblank numbers. With the coming of kernel based modesetting and the memory manager stuff, the everything in one directory approach was getting very ugly and starting to be unmanageable. This restructures the drm along the lines of other kernel components. It creates a drivers/gpu/drm directory and moves the hw drivers into subdirectores. It moves the includes into an include/drm, and sets up the unifdef for the userspace headers we should be exporting. Signed-off-by: NDave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com>

Make DRM devices use real Linux devices instead of class devices, which are going away. The data is now in kernel space, copied in/out as appropriate according to t This results in DRM_COPY_{TO,FROM}_USER going away, and error paths to deal with those failures. This also means that XFree86 4.2.0 support for i810 DR is lost. Signed-off-by: NDave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie>

As a fallout, replace filp storage with file_priv storage for "unique identifier of a client" all over the DRM. There is a 1:1 mapping, so this should be a noop. This could be a minor performance improvement, as everyth on Linux dereferenced filp to get file_priv anyway, while only the mmap ioct went the other direction. Bugzilla Bug #9457 Add refcounting of user waiters to the DRM hardware lock, so that we can use DRM_LOCK_CONT flag more conservatively. Also add a kernel waiter refcount that if nonzero transfers the lock for the kernel context when it is released. This is useful when waiting for idle and can be used for very simple fence object driver implementations for the new memory manager Signed-off-by: NDave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie>

Remove the memory manager parameter from the put_block function, as this makes the client code a lot cleaner. Prepare buffer manager for lock and unlock calls. Fix buggy aligned allocations. Remove the stupid root_node field from the core memory manager. Support multi-page buffer offset alignments Add improved alignment functionality to the core memory manager. This makes an allocated block actually align itself and returns any wasted space to the manager. Signed-off-by: NDave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie>
