The i.MX35 has two bits per clock gate which are decoded as follows: 0b00 -> clock off 0b01 -> clock is on in run mode, off in wait/doze 0b10 -> clock is on in run/wait mode, off in doze 0b11 -> clock is always on The reset value for the MAX clock is 0b10. The MAX clock is needed by the SoC, yet unused in the Kernel, so the common clock framework will disable it during late init time. It will only disable clocks though which it detects as being turned on. This detection is made depending on the lower bit of the gate. If the reset value has been altered by the bootloader to 0b11 the clock framework will detect the clock as turned on, yet unused, hence it will turn it off and the system locks up. We always boot from PLL1, so let's have pll1_sys in the clks_init_on list to have clk prepare/enable use count match the hardware status, so that drivers managing pll1_sys like cpufreq can get the use count right from the start. Building the kernel with allyesconfig fails because the i.mx early resume code located in the .data section is unable to fixup the bl relocation as the branch target gets too far away. The idea of having code in the .data section allows for easy access to nearby data using relative addressing while the MMU is off. However it is probably best to move the code back to the .text section where it belongs and fixup the data access instead. This solves the bl reloc issue (at least until this becomes a general problem) and simplifies the code as well. MACH_MX31ADS_WM1133_EV1 already depends on REGULATOR_WM8350, but that still allows REGULATOR_WM8350 to be a loadable module. Depending on REGULATOR_WM8350 to be built-in ensures we cannot create a broken configuration. This mxs usbphy is only needs to be on after system boots up, and software never needs to control it anymore. Meanwhile, usbphy's parent needs to be notified if usb is suspend or not. So we design below mxs usbphy usage: - usbphy1_gate and usbphy2_gate: Their parents are dummy clock, we only needs to enable it after system boots up. - usbphy1 and usbphy2 Usage reserved bit for this clock, in that case, the refcount will be updated, but without hardware changing. The mxc-timer on the imx25 needs to be derived from the AHB clock. If a bootloader reparents this clock to the ipg_clk_highfreq, which according to the datasheet is a valid operation, the system can/will produce lockups/ freezes after some time [1]. The return of v2_set_next_event() will lead to an infinite loop in tick_handle_oneshot_broadcast() - "goto again;" with imx6q WAIT mode (to be enabled). This happens because when global event did not expire any CPU local events, the broadcast device will be rearmed to a CPU local next_event, which could be far away from now and result in a max_delta_tick programming in set_next_event(). Fix the problem by detecting those next events with increments larger than 0x7fffffff, and simply return zero in that case. It leaves mx1_2_set_next_event() unchanged since only v2_set_next_event() will be running with imx6q WAIT mode support. Thanks Russell King for helping understand the problem. The clockevent core is able to figure out the best mult and shift, calculate min_delta_ns and max_delta_ns, with the necessary info passed into clockevents_config_and_register(). The hardware reset value of bit CCM_CLPCR_LPM enables WAIT mode (WAIT_UNCLOCKED) by default. However this is undesirable because WAIT mode should only be enabled when there is a driver managing ARM clock gating. Correct the initial power mode to WAIT_CLOCKED (disable WAIT mode). It's buggy to disable the cpu that is being hot-unplugged in .cpu_die hook which runs on the cpu itself. Instead, it should be done in .cpu_kill which runs on the thread (another cpu) that asks for shutting down the cpu. Move imx_enable_cpu(cpu, false) call into .cpu_kill hook, and leave the cpu to be hot-unplugged in WFI within .cpu_die, so that we can get a more stable cpu hot-plug operation. CONFIG_HOTPLUG is going away as an option. As a result, the __dev* markings need to be removed. This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata, and __devexit from these drivers. Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand. When mx51 dt support was added it was necessary to select MACH_MX51_BABBAGE in order to get the mx51 dt built without errors. At that time, there was no pinctrl support for mx51 yet. Currently there is no need to select MACH_MX51_BABBAGE anymore. Now that the only field in struct sys_timer is .init, delete the struct, and replace the machine descriptor .timer field with the initialization function itself. This will enable moving timer drivers into drivers/clocksource without having to place a public prototype of each struct sys_timer object into include/linux; the intent is to create a single of_clocksource_init() function that determines which timer driver to initialize by scanning the device dtree, much like the proposed irqchip_init() at: http://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg203686.html Includes mach-omap2 fixes from Igor Grinberg.
