Add required definitions to support Local Machine Check Exceptions. Historically, machine check exceptions on Intel x86 processors have been broadcast to all logical processors in the system. Upcoming CPUs will support an opt-in mechanism to request some machine check exceptions be delivered to a single logical processor experiencing the fault. Add support for Intel Processor Trace (PT) to kernel's perf events. PT is an extension of Intel Architecture that collects information about software execuction such as control flow, execution modes and timings and formats it into highly compressed binary packets. Even being compressed, these packets are generated at hundreds of megabytes per second per core, which makes it impractical to decode them on the fly in the kernel. This driver exports trace data by through AUX space in the perf ring buffer, which is zero-copy mapped into userspace for faster data retrieval. The Processor generation code-named Haswell added MSR_{CORE | GFX | RING}_PERF_LIMIT_REASONS to explain when and how the processor limits frequency. turbostat -v will now decode these bits. Each MSR has an "Active" set of bits which describe current conditions, and a "Logged" set of bits, which describe what has happened since last cleared. This patch improve checks required by Intel Software Developer Manual. - SMM MSRs are not allowed. - microcode MSRs are not allowed. - check x2apic MSRs only when LAPIC is in x2apic mode. - MSR switch areas must be aligned to 16 bytes. - address of first and last byte in MSR switch areas should not set any bits beyond the processor's physical-address width. Also it adds warning messages on failures during MSR switch. These messages are useful for people who debug their VMMs in nVMX. Add support of Hardware Managed Performance States (HWP) described in Volume 3 section 14.4 of the SDM. With HWP enbaled intel_pstate will no longer be responsible for selecting P states for the processor. intel_pstate will continue to register to the cpufreq core as the scaling driver for CPUs implementing HWP. In HWP mode intel_pstate provides three functions reporting frequency to the cpufreq core, support for the set_policy() interface from the core and maintaining the intel_pstate sysfs interface in /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate. User preferences expressed via the set_policy() interface or the sysfs interface are forwared to the CPU via the HWP MSR interface. Support the next generation Intel Atom processor mirco-architecture, formerly called Silvermont. The server version, formerly called "Avoton", is named the "Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor C2000 Product Family". The client version, formerly called "Bay Trail", is named the "Intel Atom Processor Z3000 Series", as well as various "Intel Pentium Processor" and "Intel Celeron Processor" brands, depending on form-factor. Recent Intel CPUs like Haswell and IvyBridge have a new alternative MSR range for perfctrs that allows writing the full counter width. Enable this range if the hardware reports it using a new capability bit. Currently the perf code queries CPUID to get the counter width, and sign extends the counter values as needed. The traditional PERFCTR MSRs always limit to 32bit, even though the counter internally is larger (usually 48 bits on recent CPUs) When the new capability is set use the alternative range which do not have these restrictions. This lowers the overhead of perf stat slightly because it has to do less interrupts to accumulate the counter value. On Haswell it also avoids some problems with TSX aborting when the end of the counter range is reached. This patch adds support for memory profiling using the PEBS Load Latency facility. Load accesses are sampled by HW and the instruction address, data address, load latency, data source, tlb, locked information can be saved in the sampling buffer if using the PERF_SAMPLE_COST (for latency), PERF_SAMPLE_ADDR, PERF_SAMPLE_DATA_SRC types. To enable PEBS Load Latency, users have to use the model specific event: - on NHM/WSM: MEM_INST_RETIRED:LATENCY_ABOVE_THRESHOLD - on SNB/IVB: MEM_TRANS_RETIRED:LATENCY_ABOVE_THRESHOLD To make things easier, this patch also exports a generic alias via sysfs: mem-loads. It export the right event encoding based on the host CPU and can be used directly by the perf tool. Loosely based on Intel's Lin Ming patch posted on LKML in July 2011. On AMD family 15h processors, there are 4 new performance counters (in addition to 6 core performance counters) that can be used for counting northbridge events (i.e. DRAM accesses). Their bit fields are almost identical to the core performance counters. However, unlike the core performance counters, these MSRs are shared between multiple cores (that share the same northbridge). We will reuse the same code path as existing family 10h northbridge event constraints handler logic to enforce this sharing. CPUID.7.0.EBX[1]=1 indicates IA32_TSC_ADJUST MSR 0x3b is supported Basic design is to emulate the MSR by allowing reads and writes to a guest vcpu specific location to store the value of the emulated MSR while adding the value to the vmcs tsc_offset. In this way the IA32_TSC_ADJUST value will be included in all reads to the TSC MSR whether through rdmsr or rdtsc. This is of course as long as the "use TSC counter offsetting" VM-execution control is enabled as well as the IA32_TSC_ADJUST control. However, because hardware will only return the TSC + IA32_TSC_ADJUST + vmsc tsc_offset for a guest process when it does and rdtsc (with the correct settings) the value of our virtualized IA32_TSC_ADJUST must be stored in one of these three locations. The argument against storing it in the actual MSR is performance. This is likely to be seldom used while the save/restore is required on every transition. IA32_TSC_ADJUST was created as a way to solve some issues with writing TSC itself so that is not an option either. The remaining option, defined above as our solution has the problem of returning incorrect vmcs tsc_offset values (unless we intercept and fix, not done here) as mentioned above. However, more problematic is that storing the data in vmcs tsc_offset will have a different semantic effect on the system than does using the actual MSR. This is illustrated in the following example: The hypervisor set the IA32_TSC_ADJUST, then the guest sets it and a guest process performs a rdtsc. In this case the guest process will get TSC + IA32_TSC_ADJUST_hyperviser + vmsc tsc_offset including IA32_TSC_ADJUST_guest. While the total system semantics changed the semantics as seen by the guest do not and hence this will not cause a problem. If the TSC deadline mode is supported, LAPIC timer one-shot mode can be implemented using IA32_TSC_DEADLINE MSR. An interrupt will be generated when the TSC value equals or exceeds the value in the IA32_TSC_DEADLINE MSR. This enables us to skip the APIC calibration during boot. Also, in xapic mode, this enables us to skip the uncached apic access to re-arm the APIC timer. As this timer ticks at the high frequency TSC rate, we use the TSC_DIVISOR (32) to work with the 32-bit restrictions in the clockevent API's to avoid 64-bit divides etc (frequency is u32 and "unsigned long" in the set_next_event(), max_delta limits the next event to 32-bit for 32-bit kernel). The following patch adds perf_event support for the Xeon-Phi PMU, as documented in the "Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor (codename: Knights Corner) Performance Monitoring Units" manual. Even though it is a co-processor, a Phi runs a full Linux environment and can support performance counters. This is just barebones support, it does not add support for interesting new features such as the SPFLT intruction that allows starting/stopping events without entering the kernel. The PMU internally is just like that of an original Pentium, but a "P6-like" MSR interface is provided. Some AMD systems may round the frequencies in ACPI tables to 100MHz boundaries. We can obtain the real frequencies from MSRs, so add a quirk to fix these frequencies up on AMD systems. The programming model for P-states on modern AMD CPUs is very similar to that of Intel and VIA. It makes sense to consolidate this support into one driver rather than duplicating functionality between two of them. This patch adds support for AMDs with hardware P-state control to acpi-cpufreq. This patch implements code to handle ibs interrupts. If ibs data is available a raw perf_event data sample is created and sent back to the userland. This patch only implements the storage of ibs data in the raw sample, but this could be extended in a later patch by generating generic event data such as the rip from the ibs sampling data.
