Newer Sony Vaios provide a new API for accessing platform functionality. It consists of a set of standardised methods for enabling events and performing queries. These are each identified by a unique handle. This patch adds support for calling functions based on their handle and ports the existing code for these machines over to it. Move x86 platform specific drivers from drivers/misc/ to a new home under drivers/platform/x86/. The community has been maintaining x86 vendor-specific platform specific drivers under /drivers/misc/ for a few years. The oldest ones started life under drivers/acpi. They moved out of drivers/acpi/ because they don't actually implement the ACPI specification, but either simply use ACPI, or implement vendor-specific ACPI extensions. In the future we anticipate... drivers/misc/ will go away. other architectures will create drivers/platform/<arch> Signed-off-by: NLen Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

After commit 540b8bb9: sony-laptop: fingers off backlight if video.ko is serving this functionality I can't set brightness on my sony laptop (nothing in /sys/class/backlight). dmesg says "sony-laptop: Sony: Brightness ignored, must be controlled by ACPI video driver". The function acpi_video_backlight_support returns 0 if we should use the vendor-specific backlight support, while non-0 if the ACPI generic should be used. Because of this, the check introduced by the said commit appears reversed. Signed-off-by: NAlessandro Guido <ag@alessandroguido.name> Signed-off-by: NLen Brown <len.brown@intel.com>

As it is, all instances of ->release() for files that have ->fasync() need to remember to evict file from fasync lists; forgetting that creates a hole and we actually have a bunch that *does* forget. So let's keep our lives simple - let __fput() check FASYNC in file->f_flags and call ->fasync() there if it's been set. And lose that crap in ->release() instances - leaving it there is still valid, but we don't have to bother anymore. Three main sets of changes: 1) dmi_get_system_info() return value should have been marked const, since callers should not be changing that data. 2) const-ify DMI internals, since DMI firmware tables should, whenever possible, be marked const to ensure we never ever write to that data area. 3) const-ify DMI API, to enable marking tables const where possible in low-level drivers. And if we're really lucky, this might enable some additional optimizations on the part of the compiler. The bulk of the changes are #2 and #3, which are interrelated. #1 could have been a separate patch, but it was so small compared to the others, it was easier to roll it into this changeset. Recent Vaios (C, AR, N, FE) need some special initialization sequence to enable Fn keys interrupts through the Embedded Controller. Moreover Fn keys have to be decoded internally using ACPI methods to get the key code. Thus a new DMI table to add SNC init time callbacks and new mappings for model-specific key code to generic sony-laptop code have been added.
