The PHY library was missing a bunch of newly added PHY driver callbacks along with a smallish description of what they do, fix that. Signed-off-by: NFlorian Fainelli <f.fainelli@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

There are quite a lot of drivers touching a PHY device MII_BMCR register to reset the PHY without taking care of: 1) ensuring that BMCR_RESET is cleared after a given timeout 2) the PHY state machine resuming to the proper state and re-applying potentially changed settings such as auto-negotiation Introduce phy_poll_reset() which will take care of polling the MII_BMCR for the BMCR_RESET bit to be cleared after a given timeout or return a timeout error code. In order to make sure the PHY is in a correct state, phy_init_hw() first issues a software reset through MII_BMCR and then applies any fixups. The flags argument of the phy_{attach,connect,connect_direct} functions is then used to assign a struct phy_device dev_flags with its value. All callers but the tg3 driver pass the flag 0, which results in the underlying PHY drivers in drivers/net/phy/ not being able to actually use any of the flags they would set in dev_flags. This patch gets rid of the flags argument, and passes phydev->dev_flags to the internal PHY library call phy_attach_direct() such that drivers which actually modify a phy device dev_flags get the value preserved for use by the underlying phy driver. The reorganization of the driver layout in drivers/net left behind some stale paths in comments and in Kconfig help text. Bring them up to date. No actual change to any code takes place here. All MDIO bus drivers currently name bus with "%x" format. There is one exception where mv643xx_eth driver is using "%d". Phy address on the bus uses format "%02x". Fixing phy name example to match all real life MDIO drivers. Signed-off-by: NPaulius Zaleckas <paulius.zaleckas@teltonika.lt> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Sometimes the specific interaction between the platform and the PHY requires special handling. For instance, to change where the PHY's clock input is, or to add a delay to account for latency issues in the data path. We add a mechanism for registering a callback with the PHY Lib to be called on matching PHYs when they are brought up, or reset. Most PHYs connect to an ethernet controller over a GMII or MII interface. However, a growing number are connected over different interfaces, such as RGMII or SGMII. The ethernet driver will tell the PHY what type of connection it is by setting it manually, or passing it in through phy_connect (or phy_attach). Changes include: * Updates to documentation * Updates to PHY Lib consumers * Changes to PHY Lib to add interface support * Some minor changes to whitespace in phy.h * gianfar driver now detects interface and passes appropriate value to PHY Lib Signed-off-by: NAndrew Fleming <afleming@freescale.com> Signed-off-by: NJeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
