The recent commit 087d7a8c "tg3: Fix for diasllow rx coalescing time to be 0" disallow to set Rx coalescing time to be 0 as this stops generating interrupts for the incoming packets. I found the zero Tx coalescing time stops generating interrupts for outgoing packets as well and fires Tx watchdog later. To avoid this, don't allow to set Tx coalescing time to 0 and also remove subsequent checks that become senseless. tg3_tso_bug() can hit a condition where the entire tx ring is not big enough to segment the GSO packet. For example, if MSS is very small, gso_segs can exceed the tx ring size. When we hit the condition, it will cause tx timeout. tg3_tso_bug() is called to handle TSO and DMA hardware bugs. For TSO bugs, if tg3_tso_bug() cannot succeed, we have to drop the packet. For DMA bugs, we can still fall back to linearize the SKB and let the hardware transmit the TSO packet. This patch adds a function tg3_tso_bug_gso_check() to check if there are enough tx descriptors for GSO before calling tg3_tso_bug(). The caller will then handle the error appropriately - drop or lineraize the SKB. v2: Corrected patch description to avoid confusion. When having permanent EEH error, the PCI device will be removed from the system. For this case, we shouldn't set pcierr_recovery to true wrongly, which blocks the driver to release the allocated interrupts and their handlers. Eventually, we can't disable MSI or MSIx successfully because of the MSI or MSIx interrupts still have associated interrupt actions, which is turned into following stack dump. synchronize_irq() can sleep waiting, for pending IRQ handlers so driver should release the tp->lock spin lock before invoking synchronize_irq() Reported-by: NPeter Hurley <peter@hurleysoftware.com> Tested-by: NPeter Hurley <peter@hurleysoftware.com> Signed-off-by: NPrashant Sreedharan <prashant@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: NMichael Chan <mchan@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. Currently tg3_reset_task() uses only tp->lock for synchronizing with code paths like tg3_open() etc. But since tp->lock is released before doing synchronize_irq(), rtnl_lock should be taken in tg3_reset_task() to synchronize it with other code paths. This is to avoid the race between tg3_timer() and the execution paths which does not invoke tg3_timer_stop() and releases tp->lock before calling synchronize_irq() Reported-by: NPeter Hurley <peter@hurleysoftware.com> Tested-by: NPeter Hurley <peter@hurleysoftware.com> Signed-off-by: NPrashant Sreedharan <prashant@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: NMichael Chan <mchan@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. During driver load in tg3_init_one, if the driver detects DMA activity before intializing the chip tg3_halt is called. As part of tg3_halt interrupts are disabled using routine tg3_disable_ints. This routine was using mailbox value which was not initialized (default value is 0). As a result driver was writing 0x00000001 to pci config space register 0, which is the vendor id / device id. This driver bug was exposed because of the commit a7877b17a667 (PCI: Check only the Vendor ID to identify Configuration Request Retry). Also this issue is only seen in older generation chipsets like 5722 because config space write to offset 0 from driver is possible. The newer generation chips ignore writes to offset 0. Also without commit a7877b17a667, for these older chips when a GRC reset is issued the Bootcode would reprogram the vendor id/device id, which is the reason this bug was masked earlier. Fixed by initializing the interrupt mailbox registers before calling tg3_halt. Please queue for -stable. This patch extends the set/get_rxfh ethtool-options for getting or setting the RSS hash function. It modifies drivers implementation of set/get_rxfh accordingly. This change also delegates the responsibility of checking whether a modification to a certain RX flow hash parameter is supported to the driver implementation of set_rxfh. User-kernel API is done through the new hfunc bitmask field in the ethtool_rxfh struct. A bit set in the hfunc field is corresponding to an index in the new string-set ETH_SS_RSS_HASH_FUNCS. Got approval from most of the relevant driver maintainers that their driver is using Toeplitz, and for the few that didn't answered, also assumed it is Toeplitz. If TX channels are set to 4 and RX channels are set to less than 4, using ethtool -L, the driver will try to initialize more RX channels than it has allocated, causing an oops. This fix only initializes the RX ring if it has been allocated. Signed-off-by: NThadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo <cascardo@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

When receiving a vlan-tagged frame that still contains a vlan header, the length of the packet will be greater then MTU+ETH_HLEN since it will account of the extra vlan header. TG3 checks this for the case for 802.1Q, but not for 802.1ad. As a result, full sized 802.1ad frames get dropped by the card. Add a check for 802.1ad protocol when receving full sized frames.
