This patch adds a somewhat generic framework for MDIO bus multiplexers. It is modeled on the I2C multiplexer. The multiplexer is needed if there are multiple PHYs with the same address connected to the same MDIO bus adepter, or if there is insufficient electrical drive capability for all the connected PHY devices. Conceptually it could look something like this: ------------------ | Control Signal | --------+--------- | --------------- --------+------ | MDIO MASTER |---| Multiplexer | --------------- --+-------+---- | | C C h h i i l l d d | | --------- A B --------- | | | | | | | PHY@1 +-------+ +---+ PHY@1 | | | | | | | --------- | | --------- --------- | | --------- | | | | | | | PHY@2 +-------+ +---+ PHY@2 | | | | | --------- --------- This framework configures the bus topology from device tree data. The mechanics of switching the multiplexer is left to device specific drivers. The follow-on patch contains a multiplexer driven by GPIO lines. Add of_mdio_find_bus() which allows an mii_bus to be located given its associated the device tree node. This is needed by the follow-on patch to add a driver for MDIO bus multiplexers. The of_mdiobus_register() function is modified so that the device tree node is recorded in the mii_bus. Then we can find it again by iterating over all mdio_bus_class devices. Because the OF device tree has now become an integral part of the kernel, this can live in mdio_bus.c (which contains the needed mdio_bus_class structure) instead of of_mdio.c. This patch fixes Auto Power Saving configuration in ip101a_config_init which was broken as there is no phy register write followed after setting IP101A_APS_ON flag. This patch also fixes the return value of ip101a_config_init. Without this patch ip101a_config_init returns 2 which is not an error accroding to IS_ERR and the mac driver will continue accessing 2 as valid pointer to phy_dev resulting in memory fault. The code for ip1001_config_init() was totally broken if you were not using RGMII. Instead of returning an error code or zero it actually returned the value in the IP1001_SPEC_CTRL_STATUS_2 register. It was also trying to set the IP1001_APS_ON bit , but never actually wrote back the register. The error checking was also incorrect in both this function and the reset function, so this patch fixes that up in a consistent fashion. Introduce function mdiobus_alloc_size() as an alternative to mdiobus_alloc(). Most callers of mdiobus_alloc() also allocate a private data structure, and then manually point bus->priv to this object. mdiobus_alloc_size() combines the two operations into one, which simplifies memory management. The original mdiobus_alloc() now just calls mdiobus_alloc_size(0). Signed-off-by: NTimur Tabi <timur@freescale.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

The Vitesse driver was using the RGMII_ID interface type to determine if skew was necessary. However, we want to move away from using that interface type, as it's really a property of the board's PHY connection. However, some boards depend on it, so we want to support it, while allowing new boards to use the more flexible "fixups" approach. To do this, we extract the code which adds skew into its own function, and call that function when RGMII_ID has been selected. Another side-effect of this change is that if your PHY has skew set already, it doesn't clear it. This way, the fixup code can modify the register without config_init then clearing it.
