For _HID and _CID, the disassembler will emit a string that describes the device if the _HID/_CID value is recognized. acpihelp updated also. acpihelp will now search for a specific ID as well as displaying the list of "known" (to ACPICA) IDs. This patch does not affect Linux kernel behavior as the disassembler and the acpihelp are not shipped with it. Use push and pop to both guarantee that the correct alignment is used, and to restore the alignment to whatever it was before the header was included. It is reported that the #pragma pack(push/pop) directives are not supported by the specific GCCs, but this patch still doesn't affect kernel build as there are already #pragma pack([1]) directives used in the old ACPICA headers, which means there shouldn't be GCCs that are currently used to compile the ACPI kernels do not support #pragma pack() directives. This patch enables resource dump functions for debugging purpose where ACPI_DEBUG_OUTPUT is enabled. Such functions are useful for developers to track kernel issues when composing debugging patches. They will be optimized out during link stage for normal builds. This patch updates the compilation condition used for the resource dump related string tables to match the compilation environment used for rsdump.c and rsdumpinfo.c. In the common case, the ACPI_ALLOCATE and related macros now resolve directly to their respective acpi_os* OSL interfaces. Two options: 1) The ACPI_ALLOCATE_ZEROED macro defaults to a simple local implementation by default, unless overridden by the USE_NATIVE_ALLOCATE_ZEROED define. 2) For ACPI execution simulation environment (AcpiExec) which is not shipped with the Linux kernel, the macros can optionally be resolved to the local interfaces that track each allocation (used to immediately detect memory leaks). This change adds and deploys "safe" versions of strcpy and strcat that ensure that the target buffer does not overflow. These safe functions are only helpful for processing user input and command lines. For most ACPICA code however, the required buffer length is precisely calculated before buffer allocation, so the use of these functions is unnecessary. ACPICA BZ 1043. This change only applies to the ACPICA utilities and the debugger, none of which are not shipped with the kernel yet, so the kernel's behavior remains unchanged after it. Add new API to allow OSPM to disable/enable specific types of _OSI interface strings. ACPICA does not have the knowledge about whether an _OSI interface string is an OS vendor string or a feature group string and there isn't any API interface to allow OSPM to install a new interface string as a feature group string. This patch simply adds all feature group strings defined by ACPI specification into the acpi_default_supported_interfaces with ACPI_OSI_FEATURE flag set to fix this gap. This patch also adds codes to keep their default states as ACPI_OSI_INVALID before the initialization and after the termination. Was 256 bytes max. The original purpose of this constraint was to limit the amount of debug output. However, the string function in question (UtPrintString) is now used for the disassembler also, where 256 bytes is insufficient. Reported by RehabMan@GitHub. This command was downreved and did not properly disassemble control methods with any reasonable complexity. This fix brings the command up to the same level as the rest of the disassembler. Adds one new file, dmdeferred.c, which is existing code that is now common with the main disassembler and the debugger disassembl command. There are conflicts in the "acpi_device_id*" definitions between the Linux and the ACPICA. The definitions of acpi_device_id* in ACPICA have been changed to the "acpi_pnp_device_id*". This patch changes the corresponding "acpica_device_id*" definitiions in the Linux. This patch will not affect the generated vmlinx binary. This will decrease 298 lines of 20120913 divergence.diff. Utility improvements in ACPICA are partial ignored by ACPICA Linux release. This will lead to divergences between Linux and ACPICA. This patch ports the entire "utility" into Linux and makes them igored in the compilation stage by "ACPI_FUTURE_USAGE". The following "Utility" files have been ported into the Linux: drivers/acpi/uttrack.c drivers/acpi/utcache.c drivers/acpi/utids.c This patch will not affect the generated vmlinx binary. Implemented a change/cleanup for the handling of invalid ACPI names. Names are now validated and repaired only when 1) entering a new name into the namespace and 2) disassembling a named AML opcode. A warning is only displayed in debug mode or when the interpreter is in "strict" mode, since some working machines do in fact contain invalid ACPI names. Adds install/remove interfaces so that the host can dynamically alter the global _OSI table. Also adds support for _OSI handlers. Additional support: new debugger command (osi), and test support in the acpiexec utility. Adds new file, utilities/utosi.c. ACPICA bugzilla 836. The Linux OSL _OSI code is also changed. acpi_osi_setup can't call acpi_install/remove_interface because ACPICA is not initialized yet at this early time. This type was introduced as the code was migrated from ACPI 1.0 (with 32-bit AML integers) to ACPI 2.0 (with 64-bit integers). It is now obsolete and this change removes it from the ACPICA code base, replaced by u64. The original typedef has been retained for now for compatibility with existing device driver code. This fixes a problem where the code that attempts to repair/convert an object of incorrect type is only executed on the first time the predefined method is called. The mechanism that disables warnings on subsequent calls was interfering with the repair mechanism. Completed a major update for the acpi_get_object_info external interface. Changes include: - Support for variable, unlimited length HID, UID, and CID strings - Support Processor objects the same as Devices (HID,UID,CID,ADR,STA, etc.) - Call the _SxW power methods on behalf of a device object - Determine if a device is a PCI root bridge - Change the ACPI_BUFFER parameter to ACPI_DEVICE_INFO. These changes will require an update to all callers of this interface. See the ACPICA Programmer Reference for details. Added a reader/writer locking mechanism to allow multiple concurrent namespace walks (readers), but a dynamic table unload will have exclusive access to the namespace. This fixes a problem where a table unload could delete the portion of the namespace that is currently being examined by a walk. Adds a new file, utlock.c that implements the reader/writer lock mechanism.
