Without a dedicated protocol feature, QEMU cannot know whether the backend can handle VHOST_USER_SET_CONFIG and VHOST_USER_GET_CONFIG messages. This patch adds a protocol feature that is only advertised by QEMU if the device implements the config ops. Vhost user init fails if the device support the feature but the backend doesn't. The backend should only send VHOST_USER_SLAVE_CONFIG_CHANGE_MSG requests if the protocol feature has been negotiated. We need a better way, but at the moment we need the address of the mappings sent back to qemu so it can interpret the messages on the userfaultfd it reads. This is done as a 3 stage set: QEMU -> client set_mem_table mmap stuff, get addresses client -> qemu here are the addresses qemu -> client OK - now you can use them That ensures that qemu has registered the new addresses in it's userfault code before the client starts accessing them. This commit introduces a new message called VHOST_USER_SET_VRING_ENDIAN which is analogous to the ioctl() called VHOST_SET_VRING_ENDIAN used for kernel vhost backends. Such message is necessary for backends supporting legacy (pre-1.0) virtio devices running in big-endian guests. A new vhost user message is added to allow QEMU to ask to vhost user backend to broadcast a fake RARP after live migration for guest without GUEST_ANNOUNCE capability. This new message is sent only if the backend supports the new VHOST_USER_PROTOCOL_F_RARP protocol feature. The payload of this new message is the MAC address of the guest (not known by the backend). The MAC address is copied in the first 6 bytes of a u64 to avoid to create a new payload message type. This new message has no equivalent ioctl so a new callback is added in the userOps structure to send the request. Upon reception of this new message the vhost user backend must generate and broadcast a fake RARP request to notify the migration is terminated. This patch is initially based a patch from Nikolay Nikolaev. This patch adds vhost-user multiple queue support, by creating a nc and vhost_net pair for each queue. Qemu exits if find that the backend can't support the number of requested queues (by providing queues=# option). The max number is queried by a new message, VHOST_USER_GET_QUEUE_NUM, and is sent only when protocol feature VHOST_USER_PROTOCOL_F_MQ is present first. The max queue check is done at vhost-user initiation stage. We initiate one queue first, which, in the meantime, also gets the max_queues the backend supports. In older version, it was reported that some messages are sent more times than necessary. Here we came an agreement with Michael that we could categorize vhost user messages to 2 types: non-vring specific messages, which should be sent only once, and vring specific messages, which should be sent per queue. Here I introduced a helper function vhost_user_one_time_request(), which lists following messages as non-vring specific messages: VHOST_USER_SET_OWNER VHOST_USER_RESET_DEVICE VHOST_USER_SET_MEM_TABLE VHOST_USER_GET_QUEUE_NUM For above messages, we simply ignore them when they are not sent the first time. Old code was affected by memory gaps which resulted in buffer pointers pointing to address outside of the mapped regions. Here we are introducing following changes: - new function qemu_get_ram_block_host_ptr() returns host pointer to the ram block, it is needed to calculate offset of specific region in the host memory - new field mmap_offset is added to the VhostUserMemoryRegion. It contains offset where specific region starts in the mapped memory. As there is stil no wider adoption of vhost-user agreement was made that we will not bump version number due to this change - other fileds in VhostUserMemoryRegion struct are not changed, as they are all needed for usermode app implementation - region data is not taken from ram_list.blocks anymore, instead we use region data which is alredy calculated for use in vhost-net - Now multiple regions can have same FD and user applicaton can call mmap() multiple times with the same FD but with different offset (user needs to take care for offset page alignment) Signed-off-by: NDamjan Marion <damarion@cisco.com> Acked-by: NMichael S.
