This code was based on a per-helper instance and peer-to-peer connections. The code that landed in qemu master for v5.0 is relying on a single instance and DBus bus. Instead of trying to adapt the existing dbus-vmstate code, let's remove it and resubmit. That should make reviewing easier. KVM style of PCI devices assignment was dropped in kernel in favor of vfio pci (see kernel commit v4.12-rc1~68^2~65). Since vfio is around for quite some time now and is far superior discourage people in using KVM style. qemuBuildStorageSourceChainAttachPrepareBlockdev prepares the full backing chain for attachment via blockdev. For snapshots we'll need to prepare one image only as it needs to be plugged on top of the existing chain. This patch introduces qemuBuildStorageSourceChainAttachPrepareBlockdevTop which prepares only @top similarly to the original function by splitting out the functionality into an internal function so that the API does not change. These are meant to replace the ad-hoc helpers qemuHotplugDiskSourceAttach... and the open-coded version in qemu_command.c for use in command line generation. The functions for preparing for attach of chains unfortunately need to be in qemu_command.c as they use function defined by that file and inclusion hierarchy. In this patch new functions are introduced and subsequent patches then refactor individual parts to use them. In many files there are header comments that contain an Author: statement, supposedly reflecting who originally wrote the code. In a large collaborative project like libvirt, any non-trivial file will have been modified by a large number of different contributors. IOW, the Author: comments are quickly out of date, omitting people who have made significant contribitions. In some places Author: lines have been added despite the person merely being responsible for creating the file by moving existing code out of another file. IOW, the Author: lines give an incorrect record of authorship. With this all in mind, the comments are useless as a means to identify who to talk to about code in a particular file. Contributors will always be better off using 'git log' and 'git blame' if they need to find the author of a particular bit of code. This commit thus deletes all Author: comments from the source and adds a rule to prevent them reappearing. The Copyright headers are similarly misleading and inaccurate, however, we cannot delete these as they have legal meaning, despite being largely inaccurate. In addition only the copyright holder is permitted to change their respective copyright statement. Reviewed-by: NErik Skultety <eskultet@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: NDaniel P. So far we have two arguments that we are passing to qemuBuildMemoryBackendProps() and that are taken from domain private data: @qemuCaps and @autoNodeset. In the next commit I will use one more item from there. Therefore, instead of having it as yet another argument to the function, pass pointer to the private data object. There is one change in qemuDomainAttachMemory() where previously @autoNodeset was NULL but now is priv->autoNodeset (which may be set). This is safe to do as @autoNodeset is advisory only. VMs with hardcoded platform network devices are forced to use old style '-net nic' command line config. Current we use qemu's vlan option to hook this with the '-netdev' host side of things. There is a race condition when spawning QEMU where libvirt has spawned QEMU but the monitor socket is not yet open. Libvirt has to repeatedly try to connect() to QEMU's monitor until eventually it succeeds, or times out. We use kill() to check if QEMU is still alive so we avoid waiting a long time if QEMU exited, but having a timeout at all is still unpleasant. With QEMU 2.12 we can pass in a pre-opened FD for UNIX domain or TCP sockets. If libvirt has called bind() and listen() on this FD, then we have a guarantee that libvirt can immediately call connect() and succeed without any race. Although we only really care about this for the monitor socket and agent socket, this patch does FD passing for all UNIX socket based character devices since there appears to be no downside to it. We don't do FD passing for TCP sockets, however, because it is only possible to pass a single FD, while some hostnames may require listening on multiple FDs to cover IPv4 and IPv6 concurrently.
