This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); The firmware for brcmfmac devices includes information regarding regulatory constraints. For certain devices this information is kept separately in a binary form that needs to be downloaded to the device. This patch adds support to download this so-called CLM blob file. It uses the same naming scheme as the other firmware files with extension of .clm_blob. The CLM blob file is optional. If the file does not exist, the download process will be bypassed. It will not affect the driver loading. The firmware uses a mailbox to communicate to the host what is going on. In the driver we validate the bit received. Various people seen the following message: brcmfmac: brcmf_sdio_hostmail: Unknown mailbox data content: 0x40012 Bit 4 is cause of this message, but this actually indicates the firmware has halted. Handle this bit by giving a more meaningful error message. For several reasons, it is desirable to use {READ,WRITE}_ONCE() in preference to ACCESS_ONCE(), and new code is expected to use one of the former. The brcm43430 chip needs different firmware files for chip revision 0 and 1. The file currently in linux-firmware is for revision 1 only. This commit makes brcmfmac request brcmfmac43430a0-sdio.bin instead of brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin for revision 0 chips. Note that the behavior for revision 1 chips is not changed, ideally those would load brcmfmac43430a1-sdio.bin, but that will break existing setups. When request firmware fails, brcmf_ops_sdio_remove is being called and brcmf_bus freed. In such circumstancies if you do a suspend/resume cycle the kernel hangs on resume due a NULL pointer dereference in resume function. So in brcmf_sdio_firmware_callback() we need to unbind the driver from both sdio_func devices when firmware load failure is indicated. For SDIO the alignment requirement for transfers from device to host is configured in firmware. This configuration is limited to minimum of 4-byte alignment. However, this is not correct for platforms using 64-bit DMA when the minimum alignment should be 8 bytes. This issue appeared when the ALIGNMENT definition was set according the DMA configuration. The configuration in firmware was not using that macro defintion, but a hardcoded value of 4. Hence the driver reported alignment failures for data coming from the device and causing transfers to fail. Systems with 64 bit DMA at least partially require buffers to be used for DMA to be 8-byte-aligned. One example is Amlogic Meson GX. Switching the MMC/SDIO driver for this platform to SG DMA mode resulted in problems due to unaligned buffers. Fortunately the brcmfmac driver has a global define for the alignment. Changing it to 8 fixed the issues with Meson GX. We are going to split <linux/sched/signal.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files. Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/signal.h> file that just maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and bisectable. Include the new header in the files that are going to need it. This intends to make init/attach process slightly easier to follow. What driver was doing in brcmf_bus_start wasn't bus specific at all and function brcmf_bus_stop wasn't undoing things done there. This function is supposed to be called by bus specific code when the bus is ready. brcmf_sdio_fromevntchan() was being called on the the data frame rather than the software header, causing some frames to be mischaracterized as on the event channel rather than the data channel. This fixes a major performance regression (due to dropped packets). With this patch the download speed jumped from 1Mbit/s back up to 40MBit/s due to the sheer amount of packets being incorrectly processed. In brcmf_sdio_kso_control() there is a retry loop as hardware may take time to settle. However, when the call to brcmf_sdiod_regrb() returns an error it is due to SDIO access failure and it makes no sense to wait for hardware to settle. This patch aborts the loop after a number of subsequent access errors. The driver already supports the bcm4339 chipset but only for the variant that shares the same modalias as the bcm4335, ie. sdio:c00v02D0d4335. It turns out that there are also bcm4339 devices out there that have a more distiguishable modalias sdio:c00v02D0d4339. The sdio dpc starts processing when in SDIOD_STATE_DATA. This state was entered right after firmware download. This patch moves that transition just before enabling sdio interrupt handling thus avoiding watchdog expiry which would put the bus to sleep while probing. The bus rx sequence is not in order because that control and event frames always cause immediate send, but data frames may be held for glomming in firmware side. It is not actually an error as the packets are still processed even if the RX sequence is not in order. Therefor the error message is rephrased and changed to a debug message. Firmware uses asynchronized events as a communication method to the host. The event packets are marked as ETH_P_LINK_CTL protocol type. For SDIO and PCIe bus, this kind of packets are delivered through virtual event channel not data channel. This patch adds a screening logic to make sure the event handler only processes the events coming from the correct channel. Platform data is only available for sdio. With this patch a new platform data structure is being used which allows for platform data for any device and configurable per device. This patch only switches to the new structure and adds support for SDIO devices. On a Radxa Rock2 board with a Ampak AP6335 (Broadcom 4339 core) it seems the card responds very quickly most of the time, unfortunately during initialisation it sometimes seems to take just a bit over 2 seconds to respond. This results intialization failing with message like: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Retreiving cur_etheraddr failed, -52 brcmf_bus_start: failed: -52 brcmf_sdio_firmware_callback: dongle is not responding Increasing the timeout to allow for a bit more headroom allows the card to initialize reliably. A quick search online after diagnosing/fixing this showed that Google has a similar patch in their ChromeOS tree, so this doesn't seem specific to the board I'm using. The attached patch removes the call to waitqueue_active() leaving just wake_up() behind. This fixes the problem because the call to spin_lock_irqsave() in wake_up() will be an ACQUIRE operation. I found this issue when I was looking through the linux source code for places calling waitqueue_active() before wake_up*(), but without preceding memory barriers, after sending a patch to fix a similar issue in drivers/tty/n_tty.c (Details about the original issue can be found here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/9/28/849). All bus drivers (sdio, usb and pcie) require firmware files which needs to be downloaded to the device, The definitions and mapping of device id and revision to firmware and nvram file is done by each bus driver. Aborting the current read attempt on the superframe also removes the packet from the pipeline.
