PCC OpRegion provides a mechanism to communicate with the platform directly from the AML. PCCT provides the list of PCC channel available in the platform, a subset or all of them can be used in PCC Opregion. This patch registers the PCC OpRegion handler before ACPI tables are loaded. This relies on the special context data passed to identify and set up the PCC channel before the OpRegion handler is executed for the first time. Typical PCC Opregion declaration looks like this: OperationRegion (PFRM, PCC, 2, 0x74) Field (PFRM, ByteAcc, NoLock, Preserve) { SIGN, 32, FLGS, 32, LEN, 32, CMD, 32, DATA, 800 } It contains four named double words followed by 100 bytes of buffer names DATA. Currently, acpi_bus_get_status() calls acpi_device_always_present() to allow platform quirks to override the _STA return to report that a device is present (status = ACPI_STA_DEFAULT) independent of the _STA return. In some cases it might also be useful to have the opposite functionality and have a platform quirk which marks a device as not present (status = 0) to work around ACPI table bugs. The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there is only little it can do when a device disappears. This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback. Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go away. With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate wrong expectations for driver authors. There is a name collision between acpi_device_notify() defined in bus.c and another static function defined in glue.c. Since the latter is going to be exported from that file, rename the former to acpi_notify_device() and rename acpi_device_notify_fixed() to follow the same naming pattern. No functional impact. If the OS confirms PRM (Platform Runtime Mechanism) support through the \_SB._OSC PRM bit, the BIOS may start relying on the presence of PRM support in the OS, so prevent the PRM bit from being set in the \_SB._OSC capabilities bitmask when PRM support is not built in so as to avoid confusing the BIOS in that case. The ACPI Virtual I/O Translation Table describes topology of para-virtual platforms, similarly to vendor tables DMAR, IVRS and IORT. For now it describes the relation between virtio-iommu and the endpoints it manages. Three steps are needed to configure DMA of endpoints: (1) acpi_viot_init(): parse the VIOT table, find or create the fwnode associated to each vIOMMU device. This needs to happen after acpi_scan_init(), because it relies on the struct device and their fwnode to be available. (2) When probing the vIOMMU device, the driver registers its IOMMU ops within the IOMMU subsystem. This step doesn't require any intervention from the VIOT driver. (3) viot_iommu_configure(): before binding the endpoint to a driver, find the associated IOMMU ops. Register them, along with the endpoint ID, into the device's iommu_fwspec. If step (3) happens before step (2), it is deferred until the IOMMU is initialized, then retried. Notice that the table field of struct acpi_table_events_work is never read and its event field is always equal to ACPI_TABLE_EVENT_LOAD, so both of them are redundant. Accordingly, drop struct acpi_table_events_work and use struct work_struct directly instead of it, simplify acpi_scan_table_handler() and rename it to acpi_scan_table_notify(). Moreover, make acpi_bus_table_handler() check the event code against ACPI_TABLE_EVENT_LOAD before calling acpi_scan_table_notify(), so it is not necessary to do that check in the latter. context->ret.pointer already gets set to NULL at the beginning of acpi_run_osc() and it only gets assigned a new value in the success path near the end of acpi_run_osc(), so the clearing of context->ret.pointer (when status != AE_OK) at the end of acpi_run_osc() is redundant since it will always already be NULL when status != AE_OK. Platform Runtime Mechanism (PRM) is a firmware interface that exposes a set of binary executables that can either be called from the AML interpreter or device drivers by bypassing the AML interpreter. This change implements the AML interpreter path. According to the specification [1], PRM services are listed in an ACPI table called the PRMT. This patch parses module and handler information listed in the PRMT and registers the PlatformRtMechanism OpRegion handler before ACPI tables are loaded. Each service is defined by a 16-byte GUID and called from writing a 26-byte ASL buffer containing the identifier to a FieldUnit object defined inside a PlatformRtMechanism OperationRegion. Commit 719e1f56 ("ACPI: Execute platform _OSC also with query bit clear") makes acpi_bus_osc_negotiate_platform_control() not only query the platforms capabilities but it also commits the result back to the firmware to report which capabilities are supported by the OS back to the firmware On certain systems the BIOS loads SSDT tables dynamically based on the capabilities the OS claims to support. However, on these systems the _OSC actually clears some of the bits (under certain conditions) so what happens is that now when we call the _OSC twice the second time we pass the cleared values and that results errors like below to appear on the system log: ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\_PR.PR00._CPC], AE_NOT_FOUND (20210105/psargs-330) ACPI Error: Aborting method \_PR.PR01._CPC due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20210105/psparse-529) In addition the ACPI 6.4 spec says following [1]: If the OS declares support of a feature in the Support Field in one call to _OSC, then it must preserve the set state of that bit (declaring support for that feature) in all subsequent calls. Based on the above we can fix the issue by passing the same set of capabilities to the platform wide _OSC in both calls regardless of the query flag. While there drop the context.ret.length checks which were wrong to begin with (as the length is number of bytes not elements). This is already checked in acpi_run_osc() that also returns an error in that case. Includes fixes by Hans de Goede. ACPI 6.4 introduced a new _OSC capability that is used negotiate native connection manager support. Connection manager is the entity that is responsible for tunneling over the USB4 fabric. If the platform rejects the native access then firmware based connection manager is used. The new _OSC also includes a set of bits that can be used to disable certain tunnel types such as PCIe for security reasons for instance. This implements the new USB4 _OSC so that we try to negotiate native USB4 support if the Thunderbolt/USB4 (CONFIG_USB4) driver is enabled. The platform _OSC can change the hardware state when query bit is not set. According to ACPI spec it is recommended that the OS runs _OSC with query bit set until the platform does not mask any of the capabilities. Then it should run it with query bit clear in order to actually commit the changes. Linux has not been doing this for the reasons that there has not been anything to commit, until now. The ACPI 6.4 introduced _OSC for USB4 to allow the OS to negotiate native control over USB4 tunneling. The platform might implement this so that it only activates the software connection manager path when the OS calls the _OSC with the query bit clear. Otherwise it may default to the firmware connection manager, for instance. For this reason modify the _OSC support so that we first execute it with query bit set, then use the returned value as base of the features we want to control and run the _OSC again with query bit clear. In the PRP0001 case, the compatible string may have additional data affiliated with the device. When we call device_get_match_data() on such device, we will get nothing since currently acpi_device_get_match_data() doesn't respect PRP0001. To fix the above, try acpi_of_match_device() if there is no ACPI table in the driver. Anyway, note that the device is expected to get its own proper ACPI ID. There was a divergence between Linux and ACPICA on the definition of ACPI_DEBUG_DEFAULT. This divergence was solved by taking ACPICA's definition in 4c1379d7. After resolving the divergence, it was clear that Linux users wanted to use their old set of debug flags. This change fixes the divergence by setting these debug flags during acpi_early_init() rather than during global variable initialization in acpixf.h (owned by ACPICA). Some systems have had functional issues since commit 5a8361f7 (ACPICA: Integrate package handling with module-level code) that, among other things, changed the initial values of the acpi_gbl_group_module_level_code and acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list global flags in ACPICA which implicitly caused acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() to be called before acpi_load_tables() on the vast majority of platforms. Namely, before commit 5a8361f7, acpi_load_tables() was called from acpi_early_init() if acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list was FALSE and acpi_gbl_group_module_level_code was TRUE, which almost always was the case as FALSE and TRUE were their initial values, respectively. The acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list value would be changed to TRUE for a couple of platforms in acpi_quirks_dmi_table[], but it remained FALSE in the vast majority of cases. After commit 5a8361f7, the initial values of the two flags have been reversed, so in effect acpi_load_tables() has not been called from acpi_early_init() any more. That, in turn, affects acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() which is invoked before acpi_load_tables() now and it is not possible to evaluate the _REG method for the EC address space handler installed by it. That effectively causes the EC address space to be inaccessible to AML on platforms with an ECDT matching the EC device definition in the DSDT and functional problems ensue in there. Because the default behavior before commit 5a8361f7 was to call acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() after acpi_load_tables(), it should be safe to do that again. Moreover, the EC address space handler installed by acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() is only needed for AML to be able to access the EC address space and the only AML that can run during acpi_load_tables() is module-level code which only is allowed to access address spaces with default handlers (memory, I/O and PCI config space). For this reason, move the acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() invocation back to acpi_bus_init(), from where it was taken away by commit d737f333 (ACPI: probe ECDT before loading AML tables regardless of module-level code flag), and put it after the invocation of acpi_load_tables() to restore the original code ordering from before commit 5a8361f7. It was discovered that AML tables were loaded before or after the ECDT depending on acpi_gbl_execute_tables_as_methods. According to the ACPI spec, the ECDT should be loaded before the namespace is populated by loading AML tables (DSDT and SSDT). Calling dmi_check_system() early only works on X86. Other architectures initialize the DMI subsystem later so it's not ready yet when ACPI itself gets initialized. In the best case it results in a useless call to a function which will do nothing. But depending on the dmi implementation, it could also result in warnings. Best is to not call the function when it can't work and isn't needed. Additionally, if anyone ever needs to add non-x86 quirks, it would surprisingly not work, so document the limitation to avoid confusion. As well as its sibling of_device_get_match_data() has no such checks, no need to do it in acpi_get_match_data(). First of all, we are not supposed to call fwnode API like this without driver attached. Second, since __acpi_match_device() does check input parameter there is no need to duplicate it outside. And last but not least one, the API should still serve the cases when ACPI device is enumerated via PRP0001. In such case driver has neither ACPI table nor driver data there. When __acpi_match_device() is called it would be possible to have ACPI ID table a NULL pointer. To avoid potential dereference, check for this before traverse. While here, remove redundant 'else'. The i2c touchpad on Dell XPS 9570 and Precision M5530 doesn't work out of box. The touchpad relies on its _INI method to update its _HID value from XXXX0000 to SYNA2393. Also, the _STA relies on value of I2CN to report correct status. Set acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list so the value of I2CN can be correctly set up, and _INI can get run. The ACPI table in this machine is designed to get parsed this way. Also, change the quirk table to a more generic name. The battery code uses acpi_device->dep_unmet to check for unmet deps and if there are unmet deps it does not bind to the device to avoid errors about missing OpRegions when calling ACPI methods on the device.
