Convert the various documents at the driver-model, preparing them to be part of the driver-api book. The conversion is actually: - add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs; - fix tables markups; - add some lists markups; - mark literal blocks; - adjust title markups. At its new index.rst, let's add a :orphan: while this is not linked to the main index.rst file, in order to avoid build warnings. i2c_new_dummy is typically called from the probe function of the driver for the primary i2c client. It requires calls to i2c_unregister_device in the error path of the probe function and in the remove function. This can be simplified by introducing a device-managed version. Note the changed error case return value type: i2c_new_dummy returns NULL whilst devm_i2c_new_dummy_device returns an ERR_PTR. This adds clk_get_optional() and devm_clk_get_optional() functions to get optional clocks. They behave the same as (devm_)clk_get() except where there is no clock producer. In this case, instead of returning -ENOENT, the function returns NULL. This makes error checking simpler and allows clk_prepare_enable, etc to be called on the returned reference without additional checks. This adds a function named devm_gpiod_unhinge() that removes the resource management from a GPIO descriptor. I am not sure if this is the best anglosaxon name for the function, no other managed resources have an equivalent currently, but I chose "unhinge" as the closest intuitive thing I could imagine that fits Rusty Russell's API design criterions "the obvious use is the correct one" and "the name tells you how to use it". The idea came out of a remark from Mark Brown that it should be possible to handle over management of a resource from devres to the regulator core, and indeed we can do that. There are a number of cases where conversions to devm_* API have been done but developers forgot that this conversion may imply that return values need to be checked for failure of internal resource handling like allocation. While this should be clear, it does seem to be a relatively common issue with API conversions or maybe "managed" is being misunderstood ? So add a note to make the scope of "managed" clear. Add a new minimalistic subsystem that handles multiplexer controllers. When multiplexers are used in various places in the kernel, and the same multiplexer controller can be used for several independent things, there should be one place to implement support for said multiplexer controller. A single multiplexer controller can also be used to control several parallel multiplexers, that are in turn used by different subsystems in the kernel, leading to a need to coordinate multiplexer accesses. The multiplexer subsystem handles this coordination. Thanks go out to Lars-Peter Clausen, Jonathan Cameron, Rob Herring, Wolfram Sang, Paul Gortmaker, Dan Carpenter, Colin Ian King, Greg Kroah-Hartman and last but certainly not least to Philipp Zabel for helpful comments, reviews, patches and general encouragement! The introduction of the pci_remap_cfgspace() interface allows PCI host controller drivers to map PCI config space through a dedicated kernel interface. Current PCI host controller drivers use the devm_ioremap_*() devres interfaces to map PCI configuration space regions so in order to update them to the new pci_remap_cfgspace() mapping interface a new set of devres interfaces should be implemented so that PCI host controller drivers can make use of them. Introduce two new functions in the PCI kernel layer and Devres documentation: - devm_pci_remap_cfgspace() - devm_pci_remap_cfg_resource() so that PCI host controller drivers can make use of them to map PCI configuration space regions. We've largely split the clk consumer and provider APIs along struct clk and struct clk_hw, but clk_register() still returns a struct clk pointer for each struct clk_hw that's registered. Eventually we'd like to only allocate struct clks when there's a user, because struct clk is per-user now, so clk_register() needs to change. Let's add new APIs to register struct clk_hws, but this time we'll hide the struct clk from the caller by returning an int error code. Also add an unregistration API that takes the clk_hw structure that was passed to the registration API. This way provider drivers never have to deal with a struct clk pointer unless they're using the clk consumer APIs. Signed-off-by: NStephen Boyd <sboyd@codeaurora.org>
