Attempting to use the MPU while doing XIP out of parallel flash hooked up to the async memory bus would often result in random crashes as the MPU slowly corrupted memory. The fallout here is that the async banks gain MPU protection from user space too. So any accesses have to go through the mmap() interface rather than just using hardcoded pointers. The current code will load the stack size and protection markings, but then only use the markings in the MMU code path. The NOMMU code path always passes PROT_EXEC to the mmap() call. While this doesn't matter to most people whilst the code is running, it will cause a pointless icache flush when starting every FDPIC application. Typically this icache flush will be of a region on the order of 128KB in size, or may be the entire icache, depending on the facilities available on the CPU. In the case where the arch default behaviour seems to be desired (EXSTACK_DEFAULT), we probe VM_STACK_FLAGS for VM_EXEC to determine whether we should be setting PROT_EXEC or not. For arches that support an MPU (Memory Protection Unit - an MMU without the virtual mapping capability), setting PROT_EXEC or not will make an important difference. It should be noted that this change also affects the executability of the brk region, since ELF-FDPIC has that share with the stack. However, this is probably irrelevant as NOMMU programs aren't likely to use the brk region, preferring instead allocation via mmap(). The next commit will require the use of MODULE_SYMBOL_PREFIX in .tmp_exports-asm.S. Currently it is mixed in with C structure definitions in "asm/module.h". Move the definition of this arch option into Kconfig, so it can be easily accessed by any code. This also lets modpost.c use the same definition. Previously modpost relied on a hardcoded list of architectures in mk_elfconfig.c. A build test for blackfin, one of the two MODULE_SYMBOL_PREFIX archs, showed the generated code was unchanged. vmlinux was identical save for build ids, and an apparently randomized suffix on a single "__key" symbol in the kallsyms data). The DMA channel status field was encoding redundant info wrt the DMA MMR config register, and it was doing an incomplete job of checking all DMA channels (some drivers write directly to the config register). So drop the tristate field in favor of a binary atomic field. This simplifies the code in general, removes the implicit need for sleeping, and forces the suspend code to handle all channels properly. The GPIOs on ports C/D/E on the BF538/BF539 do not behave the same way as the other ports on the part and the same way as all other Blackfin parts. The MMRs are programmed slightly different and they cannot be used to generate interrupts or wakeup a sleeping system. Since these guys don't fit into the existing code, create a simple gpiolib driver for them.
