This patch implements a workaround for a UV2 hardware bug. The bug is a non-atomic update of a memory-mapped register. When hardware message delivery and software message acknowledge occur simultaneously the pending message acknowledge for the arriving message may be lost. This causes the sender's message status to stay busy. Part of the workaround is to not acknowledge a completed message until it is verified that no other message is actually using the resource that is mistakenly recorded in the completed message. Part of the workaround is to test for long elapsed time in such a busy condition, then handle it by using a spare sending descriptor. The stay-busy condition is eventually timed out by hardware, and then the original sending descriptor can be re-used. Most of that logic change is in keeping track of the current descriptor and the state of the spares. The occurrences of the workaround are added to the BAU statistics. atomic64_read() doesn't actually write anything (as far as the C environment is concerned... the CPU does actually write but that's an implementation quirk), so it should take a const pointer. It appears about all functions in arch/x86/lib/atomic64_cx8_32.S are wrong in case cmpxchg8b must be restarted, because LOCK_PREFIX macro defines a label "1" clashing with other local labels : 1: some_instructions LOCK_PREFIX cmpxchg8b (%ebp) jne 1b / jumps to beginning of LOCK_PREFIX ! A possible fix is to use a magic label "672" in LOCK_PREFIX asm definition, similar to the "671" one we defined in LOCK_PREFIX_HERE. Just like the per-CPU ones they had several problems/shortcomings: Only the first memory operand was mentioned in the asm() operands, and the 2x64-bit version didn't have a memory clobber while the 2x32-bit one did. The former allowed the compiler to not recognize the need to re-load the data in case it had it cached in some register, while the latter was overly destructive. The types of the local copies of the old and new values were incorrect (the types of the pointed-to variables should be used here, to make sure the respective old/new variable types are compatible). The __dummy/__junk variables were pointless, given that local copies of the inputs already existed (and can hence be used for discarded outputs). The 32-bit variant of cmpxchg_double_local() referenced cmpxchg16b_local(). Commit 2a95ea6c ("procfs: do not overflow get_{idle,iowait}_time for nohz") did not take into account that one some architectures jiffies and cputime use different units. This causes get_idle_time() to return numbers in the wrong units, making the idle time fields in /proc/stat wrong. Instead of converting the usec value returned by get_cpu_{idle,iowait}_time_us to units of jiffies, use the new function usecs_to_cputime64 to convert it to the correct unit of cputime64_t. Following is happened when CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_S3C24XX_DEBUGFS is selected without building of s3c2410-iotiming.c file: arch/arm/mach-s3c2440/built-in.o:(.data+0x38c): undefined reference to `s3c2410_iotiming_debugfs Basically, the CONFIG_S3C2410_IOTIMING is not selected for MACH_MINI2440. Because the s3c2410-iotiming.c is not ever compiled and enabling CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_S3C24XX_DEBUGFS option caused undefined reference to s3c2410_iotiming_debugfs() defined in that file. Currently kvmppc_start_thread() tries to wake other SMT threads via xics_wake_cpu(). Unfortunately xics_wake_cpu only exists when CONFIG_SMP=Y so when compiling with CONFIG_SMP=N we get: arch/powerpc/kvm/built-in.o: In function `.kvmppc_start_thread': book3s_hv.c:(.text+0xa1e0): undefined reference to `.xics_wake_cpu' The following should be fine since kvmppc_start_thread() shouldn't called to start non-zero threads when SMP=N since threads_per_core=1. Unlike all of the other cpuid bits, the TSC deadline timer bit is set unconditionally, regardless of what userspace wants. This is broken in several ways: - if userspace doesn't use KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP, and doesn't emulate the TSC deadline timer feature, a guest that uses the feature will break - live migration to older host kernels that don't support the TSC deadline timer will cause the feature to be pulled from under the guest's feet; breaking it - guests that are broken wrt the feature will fail. Fix by not enabling the feature automatically; instead report it to userspace. Because the feature depends on KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP, which we cannot guarantee will be called, we expose it via a KVM_CAP_TSC_DEADLINE_TIMER and not KVM_GET_SUPPORTED_CPUID. Fixes the Illumos guest kernel, which uses the TSC deadline timer feature. Add a req_running field to the pl330_thread to track which request (if any) has been submitted to the DMA. Activation conditions for a workaround should not be encoded in the workaround's direct dependencies if this makes otherwise reasonable configuration choices impossible. This patches uses the SMP/UP patching facilities instead to compile out the workaround if the configuration means that it is definitely not needed. This means that configs for buggy silicon can simply select ARM_ERRATA_751472, without preventing a UP kernel from being built or duplicatiing knowledge about when to activate the workaround. This seems the correct way to do things, because the erratum is a property of the silicon, irrespective of what the kernel config happens to be. If the x2apic mode is disabled for reasons like interrupt-remapping not available etc, then we need to skip the logical cpu bringup of apic-id's >= 255. Otherwise as the platform is in xapic mode, init/startup IPI's will consider only the low 8-bits and there is a possibility of re-sending init/startup IPI's to the logical cpu that is already online. Currently "nox2apic" boot parameter was not enabling x2apic mode if the cpu, kernel are all capable of enabling x2apic mode and the OS handover happened in xapic mode. However If the bios enabled x2apic prior to OS handover, using "nox2apic" boot parameter had no effect. If the boot cpu's apicid is < 255, enable "nox2apic" boot parameter to disable the x2apic mode setup by the bios. On some of the recent Intel SNB platforms, by default bios is pre-enabling x2apic mode in the cpu with out setting up interrupt-remapping. This case was resulting in the kernel to panic as the cpu is already in x2apic mode but the OS was not able to enable interrupt-remapping (which is a pre-req for using x2apic capability). On these platforms all the apic-ids are < 255 and the kernel can fallback to xapic mode if the bios has not enabled interrupt-remapping (which is mostly the case if the bios has not exported interrupt-remapping tables to the OS). Currently we start with the default apic_flat mode and switch to some other apic model depending on the apic drivers acpi_madt_oem_check() routines and later followed by the apic drivers probe() routines. Once we selected non flat mode there was no case where we fall back to flat mode again. Upcoming changes allow bios-enabled x2apic mode to be disabled by the OS if interrupt-remapping etc is not setup properly by the bios. We now has a case for the apic to fall back to legacy flat mode during apic driver probe() seqeuence. Add a simple flat_probe() which allows the apic_flat mode to be the last fallback option. This change fixes a linking problem, which happens if oprofile is selected to be compiled as built-in: `oprofile_arch_exit' referenced in section `.init.text' of arch/arm/oprofile/built-in.o: defined in discarded section `.exit.text' of arch/arm/oprofile/built-in.o The problem is appeared after commit 87121ca5, which introduced oprofile_arch_exit() calls from __init function. This silently was working for many years and stopped working on Niagara-T3 machines. We need to set the MSIQ to VALID before we can set it's state to IDLE. On Niagara-T3, setting the state to IDLE first was causing HV_EINVAL errors. The hypervisor documentation says, rather ambiguously, that the MSIQ must be "initialized" before one can set the state. I previously understood this to mean merely that a successful setconf() operation has been performed on the MSIQ, which we have done at this point. Several fields in struct cpuinfo_x86 were not defined for the !SMP case, likely to save space. However, those fields still have some meaning for UP, and keeping them allows some #ifdef removal from other files. The additional size of the UP kernel from this change is not significant enough to worry about keeping up the distinction: text data bss dec hex filename 4737168 506459 972040 6215667 5ed7f3 vmlinux.o.before 4737444 506459 972040 6215943 5ed907 vmlinux.o.after for a difference of 276 bytes for an example UP config. The former implementation adds a fix gpiochip label string to the framework. This is confusing because orion_gpio_init is called more than once and this ends up in different gpiochips with the same label. This patch adds the already present orion_gpio_chip_count to the label string to make it unique in the system. When printing the code bytes in show_registers(), the markers around the byte at the fault address could make the printk() format string look like a valid log level and facility code. x86 jump instruction size is 2 or 5 bytes (near/long jump), not 2 or 6 bytes. In case a conditional jump is followed by a long jump, conditional jump target is one byte past the start of target instruction. If oprofilefs_ulong_from_user() is called with count equals zero, *val remains unchanged. Depending on the implementation it might be uninitialized. Change oprofilefs_ulong_from_user()'s interface to return count on success. Thus, we are able to return early if count equals zero which avoids using *val uninitialized. Fixing all users of oprofilefs_ulong_ from_user(). This follows write syscall implementation when count is zero: "If count is zero ... [and if] no errors are detected, 0 will be returned without causing any other effect."
