When draining buffer, revents of done_fd is 0 and evlist__filter_pollfd function returns a non-zero value. As a result, perf record does not stop profiling. The following simple scenarios can trigger this condition: # sleep 10 & # perf record -p $! After the sleep process exits, perf record should stop profiling and exit. However, perf record keeps running. If pollfd revents contains only POLLERR or POLLHUP, perf record indicates that buffer is draining and need to stop profiling. Use fdarray_flag__nonfilterable() to set done eventfd to nonfilterable objects, so that evlist__filter_pollfd() does not filter and check done eventfd. This caused the first call to map__find_symbol() to always fail on a PE file so the first sample from each PE file always had symbol <unknown>. Subsequent samples succeed however because the DSO is already loaded. This fixes dso__load() to return 0 when successfully loading a DSO with libbfd. It turns out to be too strict. For example, when directly using "struct tcp_congestion_ops" from vmlinux.h, it has a "struct module *owner" member and it is set to NULL in a bpf_tcp_cc.o. Instead, it only needs to ensure the member is a function pointer if it has been set (relocated) to a bpf-prog. This patch moves the "btf_is_func_proto(kern_mtype)" check after the existing "if (!prog) { continue; }". The original debug message in "if (!prog) { continue; }" is also removed since it is no longer valid. Beside, there is a later debug message to tell which function pointer is set. The "btf_is_func_proto(mtype)" has already been guaranteed in "bpf_object__collect_st_ops_relos()" which has been run before "bpf_map__init_kern_struct_ops()". Thus, this check is removed. v2: - Remove outdated debug message (Andrii) Remove because there is a later debug message to tell which function pointer is set. - Following mtype->type is no longer needed. These fatal-type warnings aren't yet as rare as we'd hope, due to the ever-increasing matrix of supported toolchains/plugins and their fast-changing nature as of late. Also, there are more people (and bots) looking for objtool warnings than ever before, so even non-fatal warnings aren't likely to be ignored for long. That ends up giving objtool's find_func_containing() much more test coverage than normal. Turns out, find_func_containing() doesn't work so well for overlapping symbols: 2: 000000000000000e 0 NOTYPE LOCAL DEFAULT 2 fgraph_trace 3: 000000000000000f 0 NOTYPE LOCAL DEFAULT 2 trace 4: 0000000000000000 165 FUNC GLOBAL DEFAULT 2 __fentry__ 5: 000000000000000e 0 NOTYPE GLOBAL DEFAULT 2 ftrace_stub The zero-length NOTYPE symbols are inside __fentry__(), confusing the rbtree search for any __fentry__() offset coming after a NOTYPE. Try to avoid this problem by not adding zero-length symbols to the rbtree. They're rare and aren't needed in the rbtree anyway. One caveat, this actually might not end up being the right fix. Non-empty overlapping symbols, if they exist, could have the same problem. But that would need bigger changes, let's see if we can get away with the easy fix for now. It is passed indexes to the evsel's cpu and thread maps, but references the evlist's maps instead. That results in using incorrect CPU numbers on heterogeneous systems. Fix it by using evsel maps. The id index (PERF_RECORD_ID_INDEX) is used by AUX area tracing when in sampling mode. Having an incorrect CPU number causes the trace data to be attributed to the wrong CPU, and can result in decoder errors because the trace data is then associated with the wrong process. Committer notes: Keep the class prefix convention in the function name, switching from perf_evlist__set_sid_idx() to perf_evsel__set_sid_idx(). Before this patch, profiler.inc.h wouldn't compile with clang-11 (before the __builtin_preserve_enum_value LLVM builtin was introduced in https://reviews.llvm.org/D83242). Another test that uses this builtin (test_core_enumval) is conditionally skipped if the compiler is too old. In that spirit, this patch inhibits part of populate_cgroup_info(), which needs this CO-RE builtin. The selftests build again on clang-11. The affected test (the profiler test) doesn't pass on clang-11 because it's missing https://reviews.llvm.org/D85570, but at least the test suite as a whole compiles. The test's expected failure is already called out in the README. And RTOS will only provides 64bit perf tool. At present, if the user did not obviously specify the the length of HW_BREAKPOINT_X, perf will use sizeof(long) as default. For 64bit perf tool, this value is 8. But the ILP32 syscall only accepts the length 2(Thumb) and 4. In fact, the original default length is 4 before below patch, because the length of some instructions is larger than 4 on X86_64. Use macro HAVE_ARCH_X86_64_SUPPORT to make sure that the default length is sizeof(long) on X86_64, and HW_BREAKPOINT_LEN_4 for others.
