All this USB_USBNET_MII trickery is simply not worth it considering how few code it saves. As a side effect, this also fixes the following compile error reported by Toralf Frster: <-- snip --> ... This patch covers something like this: dev = alloc_*dev(... ... priv = netdev_priv(dev); memset(priv, 0, sizeof(*priv)); The memset() here is superfluous. alloc_netdev() uses kzalloc() to allocate needed memory so there is no need to zero the priv region twice. It is preferable to group drivers by usage (net, scsi, ATA, ...) than by bus. When reviewing drivers, the [PCI|USB|PCMCIA|...] maintainer is probably less qualified on networking issues than a networking maintainer. Also, from a practical standpoint, chips often appear on multiple buses, which is why we do not put drivers into drivers/pci/net.
