The rate scaling won't treat the information in a frame with IEEE80211_TX_CTL_AMPDU set if IEEE80211_TX_STAT_AMPDU is cleared. But all the frames coming from an AGG tx queue have IEEE80211_TX_CTL_AMPDU set, and IEEE80211_TX_STAT_AMPDU is set only if the frame was sent in an AMPDU. This means that all the data in frames in AGG tx queues that aren't sent as an AMPDU is thrown away. This is even more harmful when in bad link conditions, the frames are sent in an AMPDU and then finally sent as single frame. So a lot of failures weren't reported and the rate scaling got stuck in high rates leading to very poor connectivity. Fix that by clearing IEEE80211_TX_CTL_AMPDU when the frame isn't part of an AMPDU. This bug was introduced by 2eb81a40 iwlwifi: don't clear CTL_AMPDU on frame status This fix basically reverts the aforementioned commit. We know that we have issues with the fw in the reclaim path. This is why iwl_reclaim doesn't complain too loud when it happens since it is recoverable. Somehow, the caller of iwl_reclaim however WARNed when it happens. This doesn't make any sense. When I digged into the history of that code, I discovered that this bug occurs only when we receive a BA notification. So move the W/A in the BA notification handling code where it was before. This flow can actually happen due to a corner case in mac80211: the station is deleted before we get a chance to reclaim all the packets in flight in AGG queue. The EEPROM reading/parsing code is all mixed in the driver today, and the EEPROM is parsed only when we access data from it. This is problematic because the NVM needs to be parsed and that is independent of reading it. Also, the NVM format for new devices will be different and probably require a new parser. Therefore refactor the reading and parsing and create two independent components. Reading the EEPROM requires direct hardware accesses and therefore access to the transport, but parsing is independent and can be done on an NVM blob. This field is never set to anything non-zero in mac80211, so we should be able to remove it. Unfortunately though, the iwlwifi and iwlegacy drivers use it for their internal TX status processing (which shouldn't be using the rate control API to start with), so add a new field "status.antenna" for them, at least for now. In the future, I plan to use the new field to hold the hardware queue, while the SKB's queue mapping holds the AC. Signed-off-by: NJohannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: NJohn W. The PASSIVE_NO_RX workaround currently crosses through the op_mode and transport layers, which is a bit odd. This also isn't necessary, if the transport simply reports when queues are full (or no longer full) the op_mode can keep track of this state, and report to mac80211 only what *it* thinks is appropriate. What is appropriate can then be based on whether queues should be stopped to wait for RX or not. This significantly simplifies the transport API, it no longer needs to expose anything to stop a queue, nor to wake "any" queue, this can all be handled in the upper layer completely. Also simplify the handling to not be dependent on the context, that makes little sense as the queues are shared and both contexts have to be on the same channel anyway.
