For legacy reasons omapdss handles system suspend/resume via PM notifier callback, where the driver disables/resumes all the outputs. This doesn't work well with omapdrm. What happens on suspend is that the omapdss disables the displays while omapdrm is still happily continuing its work, possibly waiting for an vsync irq, which will never come if the display output is disabled, leading to timeouts and errors sent to userspace. This patch moves the suspend/resume handling to omapdrm, and the suspend/resume is now done safely inside modeset lock. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

The common 'struct videomode' does not have a flag to select when the sync signals should be driven. The default behavior of DISPC HW is to drive the sync signal on the opposite pixel clock edge from data signal, which is also what the videomode_to_omap_video_timings() uses. However, it looks like what panels usually expect is that the data and sync signals are driven on the same edge, so let's change videomode_to_omap_video_timings() to set the sync_pclk_edge accordingly. Note that this only affect panels drivers that use videomode_to_omap_video_timings(), probably when getting the video timings directly from DT data. The drivers can still configure the sync_pclk_edge independently if they so wish. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

DISPC can drive data lines either on rising or falling pixel clock edge, which can be configured by the user. Sync lines can also be driven on rising or falling pixel clock edge, but additionally the HW can be configured to drive the sync lines on opposite clock edge from the data lines. This opposite edge setting does not make any sense, as the same effect can be achieved by just setting the sync lines to be driven on the other edge compared to the data lines. It feels like some kind of backward compatibility option, even if all DSS versions seem to have the same implementation. To simplify the code and configuration of the signals, and to make the dispc timings more compatible with what is used on other platforms, let's just remove the whole opposite-edge support. The drivers that used OMAPDSS_DRIVE_SIG_OPPOSITE_EDGES setting are changed so that they use the opposite setting from the data edge. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

The drivers/video directory is a mess. It contains generic video related files, directories for backlight, console, linux logo, lots of fbdev device drivers, fbdev framework files. Make some order into the chaos by creating drivers/video/fbdev directory, and move all fbdev related files there. No functionality is changed, although I guess it is possible that some subtle Makefile build order related issue could be created by this patch. We currently create a "displayX" style alias name for all displays, using a number that is incremented for each registered display. With the new DSS device model there is no clear order in which the displays are registered, and thus the numbering is somewhat random. This patch improves the behavior for DT case so that if the displays have been assigned DT aliases, those aliases will be used as DSS aliases. This means that "display0" is always the one specified in the DT alias, and thus display0 can be used as default display in case the user didn't specify a default display. omapdss has its own video-timings struct, but we want to move the common videomode. The first step is to change the omapdss's pixelclock unit from kHz to Hz. Also, omapdss uses "pixel_clock" field name, whereas the common videomode uses "pixelclock" field name. This patch changes the field name also, as that makes it easy to spot any non-converted pixel_clock uses. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

The omap_dss_start_device() and omap_dss_stop_device(), called by the DSS output drivers, are old relics. They originally did something totally else, but nowadays they increase the module ref count for panels that are enabled. This model is quite broken: the panel modules may be used even before they are enabled. For example, configuring the panel requires calls to functions located in the panel modules. In the following patches we try to improve the ref count management for the modules and display devices. The first step, however, is to remove the omap_dss_start/stop_device() totally. We are about to remove the dss bus support, which also means that the omap_dss_device won't be a real device anymore. This means that the embedded "dev" struct needs to be removed from omap_dss_device. After we've finished the removal of the dss bus, we see the following changes: - struct omap_dss_device won't be a real Linux device anymore, but more like a "display entity". - struct omap_dss_driver won't be a Linux device driver, but "display entity ops". - The panel devices/drivers won't be omapdss devices/drivers, but platform/i2c/spi/etc devices/drivers, whichever fits the control mechanism of the panel. - The panel drivers will create omap_dss_device and omap_dss_driver, fill the required fields, and register the omap_dss_device to omapdss. - omap_dss_device won't have an embedded dev struct anymore, but a dev pointer to the actual device that manages the omap_dss_device. The model described above resembles the model that has been discussed with CDF (common display framework). For the duration of the conversion, we temporarily have two devs in the dssdev, the old "old_dev", which is a full embedded device struct, and the new "dev", which is a pointer to the device. "old_dev" will be removed in the future. For devices belonging to dss bus the dev is initialized to point to old_dev. This way all the code can just use the dev, for both old and new style panels. Both the new and old style panel drivers work during the conversion, and only after the dss bus support is removed will the old style panels stop to compile. We currently use the omapdss bus (which contains all the available displays) to iterate the displays. As the omapdss bus is on its way out, this needs to be changed. Instead of using the dss bus to iterate displays, this patch adds our own list of displays which we manage. The panels on the dss bus are automatically added to this new list. An "alias" field is also added to omap_dss_device. This field is set to "display%d", the same way as omap_dss_device's dev name is set. This alias is later used to keep backward compatibility, when the embedded dev is no longer used. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

We currently attach an output to a dssdev in the initialization code for dssdevices in display.c. This works, but doesn't quite make sense: an output entity represents (surprisingly) an output of DSS, which is managed by an output driver. The output driver also handles adding new dssdev's for that particular output. It makes more sense to make the output-dssdev connection in the output driver. This is also in line with common display framework. Signed-off-by: NTomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com>

Currently omapdss driver sets up the initial connections between overlays, overlay manager and a panel, based on default display parameter coming from the board file or via module parameters. This is unnecessary, as it's the higher level component that should decide what display to use and how. This patch removes the code from omapdss, and implements similar code to omapfb. The def_disp module parameter and the default display platform_data parameter are kept in omapdss, but omapdss doesn't do anything with them. It will just return the default display name with dss_get_default_display_name() call, which omapfb uses. This is done to keep the backward compatibility. Links between DSS entities are made in dss_init_connections() when a panel device is registered, and are removed in dss_uninit_connections() when the device is unregistered. Modify these functions to incorporate the addition of outputs. The fields in omap_dss_device struct gives information on which output and manager to connect to. The desired manager and output pointers are retrieved and prepared to form the desired links. The output is linked to the device, and then the manager to the output. A helper function omapdss_get_output_from_device() is created to retrieve the output from the display by checking it's type, and the module id in case of DSI. The display sysfs file for viewing/storing display timings is something which will be deprecated. The new omap_video_timings fields (hsync_level, vsync_level and others) are not configurable or viewable via this sysfs file. This prevents the need to make the input more configurable to take the new fields and at the same time work without these fields for backward compatibility.
