This changes all DEFINE_TIMER() callbacks to use a struct timer_list pointer instead of unsigned long. Since the data argument has already been removed, none of these callbacks are using their argument currently, so this renames the argument to "unused". The Nubus subsystem should not be concerned with differences between VIA, RBV and OSS platforms. It should be portable across Macs and PowerMacs. This goal has implications for the initialization code relating to bus locking and slot interrupts. During Nubus initialization, bus transactions are "unlocked": on VIA2 and RBV machines, via_nubus_init() sets a bit in the via2[gBufB] register to allow bus-mastering Nubus cards to arbitrate for the bus. This happens upon subsys_initcall(nubus_init). But because nubus_init() has no effect on card state, this sequence is arbitrary. Moreover, when Penguin is used to boot Linux, the bus is already unlocked when Linux starts. On OSS machines there's no attempt to unlock Nubus transactions at all. (Maybe there's no benefit on that platform or maybe no-one knows how.) All of this demonstrates that there's no benefit in locking out bus-mastering cards, as yet. (If the need arises, we could lock the bus for the duration of a timing-critical operation.) NetBSD unlocks the Nubus early (at VIA initialization) and we can do the same. via_nubus_init() is also responsible for some VIA interrupt setup that should happen earlier than subsys_initcall(nubus_init). And actually, the Nubus subsystem need not be involved with slot interrupts: SLOT2IRQ works fine because Nubus slot IRQs are geographically assigned (regardless of platform). For certain platforms with PDS slots, some Nubus IRQs may be platform IRQs and this is not something that the NuBus subsystem should worry about. So let's invoke via_nubus_init() earlier and make the platform responsible for bus unlocking and interrupt setup instead of the NuBus subsystem. macintosh_config->via_type is meaningless on Mac IIfx (i.e. the only model with OSS chip), so skip the via_type switch statement. Call oss_init() before via_init() because it is more important and because that is the right place to initialize the oss_present flag. On this model, bringing forward oss_init() and delaying via_init() is no problem because those functions are independent. The only requirement here is that oss_register_interrupts() happens after via_init(). That is, mac_init_IRQ() happens after config_mac(). The Freescale ColdFire M5441x system-on-chip parts have full paged MMU hardware support. So far though we have only allowed them to be configured for use in non-MMU mode. All required kernel changes to support operation of the M5441x parts with MMU enabled have been pushed into the kernel, so now we can allow it to be configured and used with the MMU enabled. The m68k pg_data_table is a fix size array defined in arch/m68k/mm/init.c. Index numbers within it are defined based on memory size. But for Coldfire these don't take into account a non-zero physical RAM base address, and this causes us to access past the end of this array at system start time. Change the node shift calculation so that we keep the index inside its range. The M54[78]x ColdFire parts are not the only members of the ColdFire family that have an MMU. But currently some of the early MMU initialization code is inside the startup code specific to only the ColdFire M54[78]x parts. Move that early ColdFire MMU init code so that it is run for other ColdFire parts running with MMU enabled. Specifically this means that the MMU initialization code will now also be run for the ColdFire M5441x parts when running with MMU enabled. The code move meant that the extern definition for the mmu_context_init() function had to be moved as well. To make it clear that is ColdFire specific I have renamed that with a "cf_" in front of it and put its extern definition in the mcfmmu.h (which is already included by the setup code). Many user space API headers have licensing information, which is either incomplete, badly formatted or just a shorthand for referring to the license under which the file is supposed to be. This makes it hard for compliance tools to determine the correct license. Update these files with an SPDX license identifier. The identifier was chosen based on the license information in the file. GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall exception: NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work". This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL code, without confusing license compliance tools. Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier. The format is: ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR SPDX-ID-OF-OTHER-LICENSE) SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. The update does not remove existing license information as this has to be done on a case by case basis and the copyright holders might have to be consulted. This will happen in a separate step. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. See the previous patch in this series for the methodology of how this patch was researched. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. After we removed all the dead wood it turns out only two architectures actually implement dma_cache_sync as a real op: mips and parisc. Add a cache_sync method to struct dma_map_ops and implement it for the mips defualt DMA ops, and the parisc pa11 ops. Note that arm, arc and openrisc support DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT, but never provided a functional dma_cache_sync implementations, which seems somewhat odd. While working on enabling queued rwlock on SPARC, found this following code in include/asm-generic/qrwlock.h which uses CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN to clear a byte. static inline u8 *__qrwlock_write_byte(struct qrwlock *lock) { return (u8 *)lock + 3 * IS_BUILTIN(CONFIG_CPU_BIG_ENDIAN); } Problem is many of the fixed big endian architectures don't define CPU_BIG_ENDIAN and clears the wrong byte. Define CPU_BIG_ENDIAN for all the fixed big endian architecture to fix it. Also found few more references of this config parameter in drivers/of/base.c drivers/of/fdt.c drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.c drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c Be aware that this may cause regressions if someone has worked-around problems in the above code already. Testing shows that the CUDA_POWERDOWN command never completes (for a Centris 660av or LC 475, at least). So, don't wait for command completion on those Cuda-based models that do not support soft power. Just proceed to log the usual message, "It is now safe to turn off your Macintosh." The pci_fixup_irqs() function allocates IRQs for all PCI devices present in a system; those PCI devices possibly belong to different PCI bus trees (and possibly rooted at different host bridges) and may well be enabled (ie probed and bound to a driver) by the time pci_fixup_irqs() is called when probing a given host bridge driver. Furthermore, current kernel code relying on pci_fixup_irqs() to assign legacy PCI IRQs to devices does not work at all for hotplugged devices in that the code carrying out the IRQ fixup is called at host bridge driver probe time, which just cannot take into account devices hotplugged after the system has booted. The introduction of map/swizzle function hooks in struct pci_host_bridge allows us to define per-bridge map/swizzle functions that can be used at device probe time in PCI core code to allocate IRQs for a given device (through pci_assign_irq()). Convert PCI host bridge initialization code to the pci_scan_root_bus_bridge() API (that allows to pass a struct pci_host_bridge with initialized map/swizzle pointers) and remove the pci_fixup_irqs() call from arch code. Since commit fcc8487d ("uapi: export all headers under uapi directories"), all (and only) headers under uapi directories are exported, but asm-generic wrappers are still exceptions. To complete de-coupling the uapi from kernel headers, move generic-y of exported headers to uapi/asm/Kbuild. With this change, "make headers_install" will just need to parse uapi/asm/Kbuild to build up exported headers. For m68k, "generic-y += termios.h" is doubled in asm/Kbuild and uapi/asm/Kbuild. So, the one in the former can be simply removed. Also, move "generic-y += kprobes.h" up in order to keep the entries sorted. Currently, internals of dma_common_mmap() is compiled out if build is done for either NOMMU or target which explicitly says it does not have/want coherent DMA mmap. It turned out that dma_common_mmap() can be handy in NOMMU setup (at least for ARM). This patch converts exitent NOMMU targets to use ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP, thus when CONFIG_MMU is gone from dma_common_mmap() their behaviour stays unchanged. ARM is not converted to ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP because it 1) already has mmap callback which can handle (at some extent) NOMMU 2) already defines dummy pgprot_noncached() for NOMMU build. c6x and frv stay untouched since they already have ARCH_NO_COHERENT_DMA_MMAP. The only user of thread_saved_pc() in non-arch-specific code was removed in commit 8243d559 ("sched/core: Remove pointless printout in sched_show_task()"). Remove the implementations as well. This fixes debugger syscall restart interactions. A debugger that modifies the tracee's program counter is expected to set the orig_d0 pseudo register to -1, to disable a possible syscall restart. This removes the last user of the ptrace_signal_deliver hook in the ptrace signal handling, so remove that as well.
