On Intel Galileo boards the GPIO expander is connected to i2c bus. Moreover it is able to generate interrupt, but interrupt line is connected to GPIO. That's why we have to have GPIO driver in place when we will probe i2c host with device connected to it. dmi_get_system_info() may return NULL either when CONFIG_DMI is not set or when board has an old firmware. The patch prevents a crash and changes the default frequency to be in align with older board. In Quark X1000, there's a single PCI device that provides both an I2C controller and a GPIO controller. This MFD driver will split the 2 devices for their respective drivers. This patch is based on Josef Ahmad's initial work for Quark enabling.
