      platform-drivers: move probe to .devinit.text in drivers/video · c2e13037
      Uwe Kleine-König 提交于
A pointer to a probe callback is passed to the core via
platform_driver_register and so the function must not disappear when the
.init sections are discarded. Otherwise (if also having HOTPLUG=y)
unbinding and binding a device to the driver via sysfs will result in an
oops as does a device being registered late.

An alternative to this patch is using platform_driver_probe instead of
platform_driver_register plus removing the pointer to the probe function
      from the struct platform_driver.

fbdev: add mutex for fb_mmap locking · 537a1bf0
      Krzysztof Helt 提交于
Add a mutex to avoid a circular locking problem between the mm layer
semaphore and fbdev ioctl mutex through the fb_mmap() call.

Also, add mutex to all places where smem_start and smem_len fields change
so the mutex inside the fb_mmap() is actually used. Changing of these
fields before calling the framebuffer_register() are not mutexed.

This is 2.6.31 material. It removes one lockdep (fb_mmap() and
register_framebuffer()) but there is still another one (fb_release() and
register_framebuffer()). It also cleans up handling of the smem_start and
smem_len fields used by mutexed section of the fb_mmap().

[PATCH] fbcon/fbdev: Move softcursor out of fbdev to fbcon · c465e05a
      Antonino A. Daplas 提交于
According to Jon Smirl, filling in the field fb_cursor with soft_cursor for
drivers that do not support hardware cursors is redundant. The soft_cursor
function is usable by all drivers because it is just a wrapper around
fb_imageblit. And because soft_cursor is an fbcon-specific hook, the file is
      moved to the console directory.

Thus, drivers that do not support hardware cursors can leave the fb_cursor
field blank. For drivers that do, they can fill up this field with their own
      version.

The end result is a smaller code size. And if the framebuffer console is not
loaded, module/kernel size is also reduced because the soft_cursor module will
      also not be loaded.

[PATCH] w100fb: Rewrite for platform independence · aac51f09
      Richard Purdie 提交于
The code w100fb was based on was horribly Sharp SL-C7x0 specific and there
was little else that could be done as I had no access to anything else with
a w100 in it. There is no real documentation about this chipset available.

Ian Molton has access to other platforms with the w100 (Toshiba e-series)
and so between us, we've improved w100fb and made it platform independent.
Ian Molton also added support for the very similar w3220 and w3200
      chipsets.

There are a lot of changes here and it nearly amounts to a rewrite of the
driver but it has been extensively tested and is being used in preference
to the original driver in the Zaurus community. I'd therefore like to
update the mainline code to reflect this.
