idev has been stored on seq->private. NULL has been stored for global statistics. The situation is changed with net namespace. We need to store pointer to struct net and the only place is seq->private. So, we'll have for /proc/net/dev_snmp6/* and for /proc/net/snmp6 pointers of two different types stored in the same field. This counter is about to become per-proto-and-per-net, so we'll need two arguments to determine which cell in this "table" to work with. All the places, but proc already pass proper net to it - proc will be tuned a bit later. Some indentation with spaces in proc files is done to keep the file coding style consistent. This reverts commit db1ed684 ("[IPV6] UDP: Rename IPv6 UDP files."), commit 8be8af8f ("[IPV4] UDP: Move IPv4-specific bits to other file.") and commit e898d4db ("[UDP]: Allow users to configure UDP-Lite."). First, udplite is of such small cost, and it is a core protocol just like TCP and normal UDP are. We spent enormous amounts of effort to make udplite share as much code with core UDP as possible. All of that work is less valuable if we're just going to slap a config option on udplite support. It is also causing build failures, as reported on linux-next, showing that the changeset was not tested very well. In fact, this is the second build failure resulting from the udplite change. Finally, the config options provided was a bool, instead of a modular option. Meaning the udplite code does not even get build tested by allmodconfig builds, and furthermore the user is not presented with a reasonable modular build option which is particularly needed by distribution vendors. "struct proto" currently uses an array stats[NR_CPUS] to track change on 'inuse' sockets per protocol. If NR_CPUS is big, this means we use a big memory area for this. Moreover, all this memory area is located on a single node on NUMA machines, increasing memory pressure on the boot node. In this patch, I tried to : - Keep a fast !CONFIG_SMP implementation - Keep a fast CONFIG_SMP implementation for often used protocols (tcp,udp,raw,...) - Introduce a NUMA efficient implementation Some helper macros are defined in include/net/sock.h These macros take into account CONFIG_SMP If a "struct proto" is declared without using DEFINE_PROTO_INUSE / REF_PROTO_INUSE macros, it will automatically use a default implementation, using a dynamically allocated percpu zone. This default implementation will be NUMA efficient, but might use 32/64 bytes per possible cpu because of current alloc_percpu() implementation. However it still should be better than previous implementation based on stats[NR_CPUS] field. When a "struct proto" is changed to use the new macros, we use a single static "int" percpu variable, lowering the memory and cpu costs, still preserving NUMA efficiency. There are some objects that are common in all the places which are used to keep track of frag queues, they are: * hash table * LRU list * rw lock * rnd number for hash function * the number of queues * the amount of memory occupied by queues * secret timer Move all this stuff into one structure (struct inet_frags) to make it possible use them uniformly in the future. Like with the previous patch this mostly consists of hunks like - write_lock(&ipfrag_lock); + write_lock(&ip4_frags.lock); To address the issue with exporting the number of queues and the amount of memory occupied by queues outside the .c file they are declared in, I introduce a couple of helpers. Background: RFC 4293 deprecates existing individual, named ICMP type counters to be replaced with the ICMPMsgStatsTable. This table includes entries for both IPv4 and IPv6, and requires counting of all ICMP types, whether or not the machine implements the type. These patches "remove" (but not really) the existing counters, and replace them with the ICMPMsgStats tables for v4 and v6. It includes the named counters in the /proc places they were, but gets the values for them from the new tables. It also counts packets generated from raw socket output (e.g., OutEchoes, MLD queries, RA's from radvd, etc). Changes: 1) create icmpmsg_statistics mib 2) create icmpv6msg_statistics mib 3) modify existing counters to use these 4) modify /proc/net/snmp to add "IcmpMsg" with all ICMP types listed by number for easy SNMP parsing 5) modify /proc/net/snmp printing for "Icmp" to get the named data from new counters. This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. When network device's are renamed, the IPV6 snmp6 code gets confused. It doesn't track name changes so it will OOPS when network device's are removed. This patch moves the non-proc SNMP code into addrconf.c and reuses IPv4 SNMP code where applicable. As a result we can skip proc.o if /proc is disabled. Note that I've made a number of functions static since they're only used by addrconf.c for now. If they ever get used elsewhere we can always remove the static. After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources.
