Historically, the top three bytes of personality have been used for things such as ADDR_NO_RANDOMIZE, which made sense only for specific architectures. We now however have a flag there that is general no matter the architecture (UNAME26); generally we have to be careful to preserve the personality flags across exec(). This patch tries to fix all architectures that forcefully overwrite personality flags during exec() (ppc32 and s390 have been fixed recently by commits f9783ec8 ("[S390] Do not clobber personality flags on exec") and 59e4c3a2 ("powerpc/32: Don't clobber personality flags on exec") in a similar way already). In the old times, the whole idle task was considered as an RCU quiescent state. But as RCU became more and more successful overtime, some RCU read side critical section have been added even in the code of some architectures idle tasks, for tracing for example. So nowadays, rcu_idle_enter() and rcu_idle_exit() must be called by the architecture to tell RCU about the part in the idle loop that doesn't make use of rcu read side critical sections, typically the part that puts the CPU in low power mode. This is necessary for RCU to find the quiescent states in idle in order to complete grace periods. Add this missing pair of calls in the Frv's idle loop. Reported-by: NPaul E. All callers of kmap_atomic_primary() use __KM_CACHE, so it can be removed safely, and __kmap_atomic_primary() only check if 'type' if __KM_CACHE or not, so 'type' can be changed to a boolean as well. frv and xtensa both have a header (in their include/asm directories) that are thin wrappers around asm-generic/cpumask.h. These wrappers are useless, since that header doesn't exist. They are also unused (all files including asm/cpumask.h are x86 specific). hexagon and openrisc generate similar headers at build time (using a generic-y entry in include/asm/Kbuild). These generated headers are useless and unused too. Remove these headers and generic-y entries. The fixups are executed once the pci-device is found which is during boot process so __init seems fine as long as the platform does not support hotplug. However it is possible to remove the PCI bus at run time and have it rediscovered again via "echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan" and this will call the fixups again. Does block_sigmask() + tracehook_signal_handler(); called when sigframe has been successfully built. All architectures converted to it; block_sigmask() itself is gone now (merged into this one). I'm still not too happy with the signature, but that's a separate story (IMO we need a structure that would contain signal number + siginfo + k_sigaction, so that get_signal_to_deliver() would fill one, signal_delivered(), handle_signal() and probably setup...frame() - take one). As described in e6fa16ab ("signal: sigprocmask() should do retarget_shared_pending()") the modification of current->blocked is incorrect as we need to check whether the signal we're about to block is pending in the shared queue. Also, use the new helper function introduced in commit 5e6292c0 ("signal: add block_sigmask() for adding sigmask to current->blocked") which centralises the code for updating current->blocked after successfully delivering a signal and reduces the amount of duplicate code across architectures. In the past some architectures got this code wrong, so using this helper function should stop that from happening again. Commit 41101809 ("fork: Provide weak arch_release_[task_struct| thread_info] functions") in -tip highlights a problem in the frv arch, where it has needles prototypes for alloc_task_struct_node and free_task_struct. This now shows up as: kernel/fork.c:120:66: error: static declaration of 'alloc_task_struct_node' follows non-static declaration kernel/fork.c:127:51: error: static declaration of 'free_task_struct' follows non-static declaration since that commit turned them into real functions. Since arch/frv does does not define define __HAVE_ARCH_TASK_STRUCT_ALLOCATOR (i.e. it just uses the generic ones) it shouldn't list these at all. Hardware with MCA bus is limited to 386 and 486 class machines that are now 20+ years old and typically with less than 32MB of memory. A quick search on the internet, and you see that even the MCA hobbyist/enthusiast community has lost interest in the early 2000 era and never really even moved ahead from the 2.4 kernels to the 2.6 series. This deletes anything remaining related to CONFIG_MCA from core kernel code and from the x86 architecture. There is no point in carrying this any further into the future. One complication to watch for is inadvertently scooping up stuff relating to machine check, since there is overlap in the TLA name space (e.g. arch/x86/boot/mca.c). alloc_task_struct_node() allocates THREAD_SIZE and maintains some weird refcount in the allocated memory. This never blew up as task_struct size on 32bit machines was always less than THREAD_SIZE Allocate just sizeof(struct task_struct) and get rid of the magic refcounting.
