xfs_attr3_root_inactive() walks the attr fork tree to invalidate the associated blocks. xfs_attr3_node_inactive() recursively descends from internal blocks to leaf blocks, caching block address values along the way to revisit parent blocks, locate the next entry and descend down that branch of the tree. The code that attempts to reread the parent block is unsafe because it assumes that the local xfs_da_node_entry pointer remains valid after an xfs_trans_brelse() and re-read of the parent buffer. Under heavy memory pressure, it is possible that the buffer has been reclaimed and reallocated by the time the parent block is reread. This means that 'btree' can point to an invalid memory address, lead to a random/garbage value for child_fsb and cause the subsequent read of the attr fork to go off the rails and return a NULL buffer for an attr fork offset that is most likely not allocated. Note that this problem can be manufactured by setting XFS_ATTR_BTREE_REF to 0 to prevent LRU caching of attr buffers, creating a file with a multi-level attr fork and removing it to trigger inactivation. To address this problem, reinit the node/btree pointers to the parent buffer after it has been re-read. This ensures btree points to a valid record and allows the walk to proceed. Merge xfs_trans_reserve and xfs_trans_alloc into a single function call that returns a transaction with all the required log and block reservations, and which allows passing transaction flags directly to avoid the cumbersome _xfs_trans_alloc interface. While we're at it we also get rid of the transaction type argument that has been superflous since we stopped supporting the non-CIL logging mode. The guts of it will be removed in another patch. The xfs_attr3_root_inactive() call from xfs_attr_inactive() assumes that attribute blocks exist to invalidate. It is possible to have an attribute fork without extents, however. Consider the case where the attribute fork is created towards the beginning of xfs_attr_set() but some part of the subsequent attribute set fails. If an inode in such a state hits xfs_attr_inactive(), it eventually calls xfs_dabuf_map() and possibly xfs_bmapi_read(). The former emits a filesystem corruption warning, returns an error that bubbles back up to xfs_attr_inactive(), and leads to destruction of the in-core attribute fork without an on-disk reset. If the inode happens to make it back through xfs_inactive() in this state (e.g., via a concurrent bulkstat that cycles the inode from the reclaim state and releases it), i_afp might not exist when xfs_bmapi_read() is called and causes a NULL dereference panic. A '-p 2' fsstress run to ENOSPC on a relatively small fs (1GB) reproduces these problems. The behavior is a regression caused by: 6dfe5a04 xfs: xfs_attr_inactive leaves inconsistent attr fork state behind ... which removed logic that avoided the attribute extent truncate when no extents exist. Restore this logic to ensure the attribute fork is destroyed and reset correctly if it exists without any allocated extents. cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 3.12 to 4.0.x Signed-off-by: NBrian Foster <bfoster@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: NDave Chinner <dchinner@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: NDave Chinner <david@fromorbit.com>

The flags argument to xfs_trans_commit is not useful for most callers, as a commit of a transaction without a permanent log reservation must pass 0 here, and all callers for a transaction with a permanent log reservation except for xfs_trans_roll must pass XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES. So remove the flags argument from the public xfs_trans_commit interfaces, and introduce low-level __xfs_trans_commit variant just for xfs_trans_roll that regrants a log reservation instead of releasing it. xfs_trans_cancel takes two flags arguments: XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES and XFS_TRANS_ABORT. Both of them are a direct product of the transaction state, and can be deducted: - any dirty transaction needs XFS_TRANS_ABORT to be properly canceled, and XFS_TRANS_ABORT is a noop for a transaction that is not dirty. - any transaction with a permanent log reservation needs XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES to be properly canceled, and passing XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES for a transaction without a permanent log reservation is invalid. So just remove the flags argument and do the right thing. xfs_attr_inactive() is supposed to clean up the attribute fork when the inode is being freed. While it removes attribute fork extents, it completely ignores attributes in local format, which means that there can still be active attributes on the inode after xfs_attr_inactive() has run. This leads to problems with concurrent inode writeback - the in-core inode attribute fork is removed without locking on the assumption that nothing will be attempting to access the attribute fork after a call to xfs_attr_inactive() because it isn't supposed to exist on disk any more. To fix this, make xfs_attr_inactive() completely remove all traces of the attribute fork from the inode, regardless of it's state. Further, also remove the in-core attribute fork structure safely so that there is nothing further that needs to be done by callers to clean up the attribute fork. This means we can remove the in-core and on-disk attribute forks atomically. Also, on error simply remove the in-memory attribute fork. There's nothing that can be done with it once we have failed to remove the on-disk attribute fork, so we may as well just blow it away here anyway. cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org> # 3.12 to 4.0 Reported-by: NWaiman Long <waiman.long@hp.com> Signed-off-by: NDave Chinner <dchinner@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: NBrian Foster <bfoster@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: NDave Chinner <david@fromorbit.com>

Conversion from on-disk structures to in-core header structures currently relies on magic number checks. If the magic number is wrong, but one of the supported values, we do the wrong thing with the encode/decode operation. Split these functions so that there are discrete operations for the specific directory format we are handling. In doing this, move all the header encode/decode functions to xfs_da_format.c as they are directly manipulating the on-disk format. It should be noted that all the growth in binary size is from xfs_da_format.c - the rest of the code actaully shrinks. text data bss dec hex filename 794490 96802 1096 892388 d9de4 fs/xfs/xfs.o.orig 792986 96802 1096 890884 d9804 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p1 792350 96802 1096 890248 d9588 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p2 789293 96802 1096 887191 d8997 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p3 789005 96802 1096 886903 d8997 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p4 789061 96802 1096 886959 d88af fs/xfs/xfs.o.p5 789733 96802 1096 887631 d8b4f fs/xfs/xfs.o.p6 791421 96802 1096 889319 d91e7 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p7 Signed-off-by: NDave Chinner <dchinner@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: NBen Myers <bpm@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: NBen Myers <bpm@sgi.com>

The remaining non-vectorised code for the directory structure is the node format blocks. This is shared with the attribute tree, and so is slightly more complex to vectorise. Introduce a "non-directory" directory ops structure that is attached to all non-directory inodes so that attribute operations can be vectorised for all inodes. Once we do this, we can vectorise all the da btree operations. Because this patch adds more infrastructure than it removes the binary size does not decrease: text data bss dec hex filename 794490 96802 1096 892388 d9de4 fs/xfs/xfs.o.orig 792986 96802 1096 890884 d9804 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p1 792350 96802 1096 890248 d9588 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p2 789293 96802 1096 887191 d8997 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p3 789005 96802 1096 886903 d8997 fs/xfs/xfs.o.p4 789061 96802 1096 886959 d88af fs/xfs/xfs.o.p5 789733 96802 1096 887631 d8b4f fs/xfs/xfs.o.p6 Signed-off-by: NDave Chinner <dchinner@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: NBen Myers <bpm@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: NBen Myers <bpm@sgi.com>

Currently the xfs_inode.h header has a dependency on the definition of the BMAP btree records as the inode fork includes an array of xfs_bmbt_rec_host_t objects in it's definition. Move all the btree format definitions from xfs_btree.h, xfs_bmap_btree.h, xfs_alloc_btree.h and xfs_ialloc_btree.h to xfs_format.h to continue the process of centralising the on-disk format definitions. With this done, the xfs inode definitions are no longer dependent on btree header files. The enables a massive culling of unnecessary includes, with close to 200 #include directives removed from the XFS kernel code base. xfs_trans.h has a dependency on xfs_log.h for a couple of structures. Most code that does transactions doesn't need to know anything about the log, but this dependency means that they have to include xfs_log.h. Decouple the xfs_trans.h and xfs_log.h header files and clean up the includes to be in dependency order. In doing this, remove the direct include of xfs_trans_reserve.h from xfs_trans.h so that we remove the dependency between xfs_trans.h and xfs_mount.h. Hence the xfs_trans.h include can be moved to the indicate the actual dependencies other header files have on it. All of the buffer operations structures are needed to be exported for xfs_db, so move them all to a common location rather than spreading them all over the place. They are verifying the on-disk format, so while xfs_format.h might be a good place, it is not part of the on disk format. Hence we need to create a new header file that we centralise these related definitions. Start by moving the bffer operations structures, and then also move all the other definitions that have crept into xfs_log_format.h and xfs_format.h as there was no other shared header file to put them in.
