When we do dquot readahead in log recovery, we do not use a verifier as the underlying buffer may not have dquots in it. e.g. the allocation operation hasn't yet been replayed. Hence we do not want to fail recovery because we detect an operation to be replayed has not been run yet. This problem was addressed for inodes in commit d8914002 ("xfs: inode buffers may not be valid during recovery readahead") but the problem was not recognised to exist for dquots and their buffers as the dquot readahead did not have a verifier. The result of not using a verifier is that when the buffer is then next read to replay a dquot modification, the dquot buffer verifier will only be attached to the buffer if *readahead is not complete*. Hence we can read the buffer, replay the dquot changes and then add it to the delwri submission list without it having a verifier attached to it. This then generates warnings in xfs_buf_ioapply(), which catches and warns about this case. Fix this and make it handle the same readahead verifier error cases as for inode buffers by adding a new readahead verifier that has a write operation as well as a read operation that marks the buffer as not done if any corruption is detected. Also make sure we don't run readahead if the dquot buffer has been marked as cancelled by recovery. This will result in readahead either succeeding and the buffer having a valid write verifier, or readahead failing and the buffer state requiring the subsequent read to resubmit the IO with the new verifier. In either case, this will result in the buffer always ending up with a valid write verifier on it. Note: we also need to fix the inode buffer readahead error handling to mark the buffer with EIO. Brian noticed the code I copied from there wrong during review, so fix it at the same time. The flags argument to xfs_trans_commit is not useful for most callers, as a commit of a transaction without a permanent log reservation must pass 0 here, and all callers for a transaction with a permanent log reservation except for xfs_trans_roll must pass XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES. So remove the flags argument from the public xfs_trans_commit interfaces, and introduce low-level __xfs_trans_commit variant just for xfs_trans_roll that regrants a log reservation instead of releasing it. xfs_trans_cancel takes two flags arguments: XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES and XFS_TRANS_ABORT. Both of them are a direct product of the transaction state, and can be deducted: - any dirty transaction needs XFS_TRANS_ABORT to be properly canceled, and XFS_TRANS_ABORT is a noop for a transaction that is not dirty. - any transaction with a permanent log reservation needs XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES to be properly canceled, and passing XFS_TRANS_RELEASE_LOG_RES for a transaction without a permanent log reservation is invalid. So just remove the flags argument and do the right thing. We now have several superblock loggin functions that are identical except for the transaction reservation and whether it shoul dbe a synchronous transaction or not. Consolidate these all into a single function, a single reserveration and a sync flag and call it xfs_sync_sb(). Also, xfs_mod_sb() is not really a modification function - it's the operation of logging the superblock buffer. hence change the name of it to reflect this. Note that we have to change the mp->m_update_flags that are passed around at mount time to a boolean simply to indicate a superblock update is needed. Add two functions xfs_create_tmpfile() and xfs_vn_tmpfile() to support O_TMPFILE file creation. In contrast to xfs_create(), xfs_create_tmpfile() has a different log reservation to the regular file creation because there is no directory modification, and doesn't check if an entry can be added to the directory, but the reservation quotas is required appropriately, and finally its inode is added to the unlinked list. xfs_vn_tmpfile() add one O_TMPFILE method to VFS interface and directly invoke xfs_create_tmpfile(). All of the buffer operations structures are needed to be exported for xfs_db, so move them all to a common location rather than spreading them all over the place. They are verifying the on-disk format, so while xfs_format.h might be a good place, it is not part of the on disk format. Hence we need to create a new header file that we centralise these related definitions. Start by moving the bffer operations structures, and then also move all the other definitions that have crept into xfs_log_format.h and xfs_format.h as there was no other shared header file to put them in.
