This socket option returns the NAPI ID associated with the queue on which the last frame is received. This information can be used by the apps to split the incoming flows among the threads based on the Rx queue on which they are received. If the NAPI ID actually represents a sender_cpu then the value is ignored and 0 is returned. This patch exports the sender chronograph stats via the socket SO_TIMESTAMPING channel. Currently we can instrument how long a particular application unit of data was queued in TCP by tracking SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SOFTWARE and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SCHED. Having these sender chronograph stats exported simultaneously along with these timestamps allow further breaking down the various sender limitation. For example, a video server can tell if a particular chunk of video on a connection takes a long time to deliver because TCP was experiencing small receive window. It is not possible to tell before this patch without packet traces. To prepare these stats, the user needs to set SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS and SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_TSONLY flags while requesting other SOF_TIMESTAMPING TX timestamps. When the timestamps are available in the error queue, the stats are returned in a separate control message of type SCM_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS, in a list of TLVs (struct nlattr) of types: TCP_NLA_BUSY_TIME, TCP_NLA_RWND_LIMITED, TCP_NLA_SNDBUF_LIMITED. This patch add the SO_CNX_ADVICE socket option (setsockopt only). The purpose is to allow an application to give feedback to the kernel about the quality of the network path for a connected socket. The value argument indicates the type of quality report. For this initial patch the only supported advice is a value of 1 which indicates "bad path, please reroute"-- the action taken by the kernel is to call dst_negative_advice which will attempt to choose a different ECMP route, reset the TX hash for flow label and UDP source port in encapsulation, etc. This facility should be useful for connected UDP sockets where only the application can provide any feedback about path quality. It could also be useful for TCP applications that have additional knowledge about the path outside of the normal TCP control loop. Alternative to RPS/RFS is to use hardware support for multiple queues. Then split a set of million of sockets into worker threads, each one using epoll() to manage events on its own socket pool. Ideally, we want one thread per RX/TX queue/cpu, but we have no way to know after accept() or connect() on which queue/cpu a socket is managed. We normally use one cpu per RX queue (IRQ smp_affinity being properly set), so remembering on socket structure which cpu delivered last packet is enough to solve the problem. After accept(), connect(), or even file descriptor passing around processes, applications can use : int cpu; socklen_t len = sizeof(cpu); getsockopt(fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_INCOMING_CPU, &cpu, &len); And use this information to put the socket into the right silo for optimal performance, as all networking stack should run on the appropriate cpu, without need to send IPI (RPS/RFS). For user space packet capturing libraries such as libpcap, there's currently only one way to check which BPF extensions are supported by the kernel, that is, commit aa1113d9 ("net: filter: return -EINVAL if BPF_S_ANC* operation is not supported"). For querying all extensions at once this might be rather inconvenient. Therefore, this patch introduces a new option which can be used as an argument for getsockopt(), and allows one to obtain information about which BPF extensions are supported by the current kernel. As David Miller suggests, we do not need to define any bits right now and status quo can just return 0 in order to state that this versions supports SKF_AD_PROTOCOL up to SKF_AD_PAY_OFFSET. Later additions to BPF extensions need to add their bits to the bpf_tell_extensions() function, as documented in the comment. As mentioned in commit afe4fd06 ("pkt_sched: fq: Fair Queue packet scheduler"), this patch adds a new socket option. SO_MAX_PACING_RATE offers the application the ability to cap the rate computed by transport layer. Value is in bytes per second. u32 val = 1000000; setsockopt(sockfd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_MAX_PACING_RATE, &val, sizeof(val)); To be effectively paced, a flow must use FQ packet scheduler. Note that a packet scheduler takes into account the headers for its computations. The effective payload rate depends on MSS and retransmits if any. I chose to make this pacing rate a SOL_SOCKET option instead of a TCP one because this can be used by other protocols. Signed-off-by: NEric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Cc: Steinar H. Currently, when a socket receives something on the error queue it only wakes up the socket on select if it is in the "read" list, that is the socket has something to read. It is useful also to wake the socket if it is in the error list, which would enable software to wait on error queue packets without waking up for regular data on the socket. The main use case is for receiving timestamped transmit packets which return the timestamp to the socket via the error queue. This enables an application to select on the socket for the error queue only instead of for the regular traffic. -v2- * Added the SO_SELECT_ERR_QUEUE socket option to every architechture specific file * Modified every socket poll function that checks error queue Signed-off-by: NJacob Keller <jacob.e.keller@intel.com> Cc: Jeffrey Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com> Cc: Richard Cochran <richardcochran@gmail.com> Cc: Matthew Vick <matthew.vick@intel.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. While a privileged program can open a raw socket, attach some restrictive filter and drop its privileges (or send the socket to an unprivileged program through some Unix socket), the filter can still be removed or modified by the unprivileged program. This commit adds a socket option to lock the filter (SO_LOCK_FILTER) preventing any modification of a socket filter program. This is similar to OpenBSD BIOCLOCK ioctl on bpf sockets, except even root is not allowed change/drop the filter. The state of the lock can be read with getsockopt(). No error is triggered if the state is not changed. -EPERM is returned when a user tries to remove the lock or to change/remove the filter while the lock is active. The check is done directly in sk_attach_filter() and sk_detach_filter() and does not affect only setsockopt() syscall. Signed-off-by: NVincent Bernat <bernat@luffy.cx> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. The SO_ATTACH_FILTER option is set only. I propose to add the get ability by using SO_ATTACH_FILTER in getsockopt. To be less irritating to eyes the SO_GET_FILTER alias to it is declared. This ability is required by checkpoint-restore project to be able to save full state of a socket. There are two issues with getting filter back. First, kernel modifies the sock_filter->code on filter load, thus in order to return the filter element back to user we have to decode it into user-visible constants. Fortunately the modification in question is interconvertible. Second, the BPF_S_ALU_DIV_K code modifies the command argument k to speed up the run-time division by doing kernel_k = reciprocal(user_k). Bad news is that different user_k may result in same kernel_k, so we can't get the original user_k back. Good news is that we don't have to do it. What we need to is calculate a user2_k so, that reciprocal(user2_k) == reciprocal(user_k) == kernel_k i.e. if it's re-loaded back the compiled again value will be exactly the same as it was. That said, the user2_k can be calculated like this user2_k = reciprocal(kernel_k) with an exception, that if kernel_k == 0, then user2_k == 1. The optlen argument is treated like this -- when zero, kernel returns the amount of sock_fprog elements in filter, otherwise it should be large enough for the sock_fprog array. changes since v1: * Declared SO_GET_FILTER in all arch headers * Added decode of vlan-tag codes Signed-off-by: NPavel Emelyanov <xemul@parallels.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. This one specifies where to start MSG_PEEK-ing queue data from. When set to negative value means that MSG_PEEK works as ususally -- peeks from the head of the queue always. When some bytes are peeked from queue and the peeking offset is non negative it is moved forward so that the next peek will return next portion of data. When non-peeking recvmsg occurs and the peeking offset is non negative is is moved backward so that the next peek will still peek the proper data (i.e. the one that would have been picked if there were no non peeking recv in between). The offset is set using per-proto opteration to let the protocol handle the locking issues and to check whether the peeking offset feature is supported by the protocol the socket belongs to. The 802.1X EAPOL handshake hostapd does requires knowing whether the frame was ack'ed by the peer. Currently, we fudge this pretty badly by not even transmitting the frame as a normal data frame but injecting it with radiotap and getting the status out of radiotap monitor as well. This is rather complex, confuses users (mon.wlan0 presence) and doesn't work with all hardware. To get rid of that hack, introduce a real wifi TX status option for data frame transmissions. This works similar to the existing TX timestamping in that it reflects the SKB back to the socket's error queue with a SCM_WIFI_STATUS cmsg that has an int indicating ACK status (0/1). Since it is possible that at some point we will want to have TX timestamping and wifi status in a single errqueue SKB (there's little point in not doing that), redefine SO_EE_ORIGIN_TIMESTAMPING to SO_EE_ORIGIN_TXSTATUS which can collect more than just the timestamp; keep the old constant as an alias of course. Currently the internal APIs don't make that possible, but it wouldn't be hard to split them up in a way that makes it possible. Create a new socket level option to report number of queue overflows Recently I augmented the AF_PACKET protocol to report the number of frames lost on the socket receive queue between any two enqueued frames. This value was exported via a SOL_PACKET level cmsg. AFter I completed that work it was requested that this feature be generalized so that any datagram oriented socket could make use of this option. As such I've created this patch, It creates a new SOL_SOCKET level option called SO_RXQ_OVFL, which when enabled exports a SOL_SOCKET level cmsg that reports the nubmer of times the sk_receive_queue overflowed between any two given frames. It also augments the AF_PACKET protocol to take advantage of this new feature (as it previously did not touch sk->sk_drops, which this patch uses to record the overflow count). Tested successfully by me. Notes: 1) Unlike my previous patch, this patch simply records the sk_drops value, which is not a number of drops between packets, but rather a total number of drops. Deltas must be computed in user space. 2) While this patch currently works with datagram oriented protocols, it will also be accepted by non-datagram oriented protocols. I'm not sure if thats agreeable to everyone, but my argument in favor of doing so is that, for those protocols which aren't applicable to this option, sk_drops will always be zero, and reporting no drops on a receive queue that isn't used for those non-participating protocols seems reasonable to me. This also saves us having to code in a per-protocol opt in mechanism. 3) This applies cleanly to net-next assuming that commit 97775007 (my af packet cmsg patch) is reverted Signed-off-by: NNeil Horman <nhorman@tuxdriver.com> Signed-off-by: NEric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: NDavid S. User space can request hardware and/or software time stamping. Reporting of the result(s) via a new control message is enabled separately for each field in the message because some of the fields may require additional computation and thus cause overhead. User space can tell the different kinds of time stamps apart and choose what suits its needs. When a TX timestamp operation is requested, the TX skb will be cloned and the clone will be time stamped (in hardware or software) and added to the socket error queue of the skb, if the skb has a socket associated with it. The actual TX timestamp will reach userspace as a RX timestamp on the cloned packet. If timestamping is requested and no timestamping is done in the device driver (potentially this may use hardware timestamping), it will be done in software after the device's start_hard_xmit routine. This patch implements an API whereby an application can determine the label of its peer's Unix datagram sockets via the auxiliary data mechanism of recvmsg. Patch purpose: This patch enables a security-aware application to retrieve the security context of the peer of a Unix datagram socket. The application can then use this security context to determine the security context for processing on behalf of the peer who sent the packet. Patch design and implementation: The design and implementation is very similar to the UDP case for INET sockets. Basically we build upon the existing Unix domain socket API for retrieving user credentials. Linux offers the API for obtaining user credentials via ancillary messages (i.e., out of band/control messages that are bundled together with a normal message). To retrieve the security context, the application first indicates to the kernel such desire by setting the SO_PASSSEC option via getsockopt. Then the application retrieves the security context using the auxiliary data mechanism. An example server application for Unix datagram socket should look like this: toggle = 1; toggle_len = sizeof(toggle); setsockopt(sockfd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_PASSSEC, &toggle, &toggle_len); recvmsg(sockfd, &msg_hdr, 0); if (msg_hdr.msg_controllen > sizeof(struct cmsghdr)) { cmsg_hdr = CMSG_FIRSTHDR(&msg_hdr); if (cmsg_hdr->cmsg_len <= CMSG_LEN(sizeof(scontext)) && cmsg_hdr->cmsg_level == SOL_SOCKET && cmsg_hdr->cmsg_type == SCM_SECURITY) { memcpy(&scontext, CMSG_DATA(cmsg_hdr), sizeof(scontext)); } } sock_setsockopt is enhanced with a new socket option SOCK_PASSSEC to allow a server socket to receive security context of the peer. Testing: We have tested the patch by setting up Unix datagram client and server applications. We verified that the server can retrieve the security context using the auxiliary data mechanism of recvmsg.
