drm_gem_get_pages() currently allows passing a 'gfp' parameter that is passed to shmem combined with mapping_gfp_mask(). Given that the default mapping_gfp_mask() is GFP_HIGHUSER, it is _very_ unlikely that anyone will ever make use of that parameter. In fact, all drivers currently pass redundant flags or 0. This patch removes the 'gfp' parameter. The only reason to keep it is to remove flags like __GFP_WAIT. But in its current form, it can only be used to add flags. So to remove __GFP_WAIT, you'd have to drop it from the mapping_gfp_mask, which again is stupid as this mask is used by shmem-core for other allocations, too. If any driver ever requires that parameter, we can introduce a new helper that takes the raw 'gfp' parameter. The caller'd be responsible to combine it with mapping_gfp_mask() in a suitable way. The current drm_gem_get_pages() helper would then simply use mapping_gfp_mask() and call the new helper. This is what shmem_read_mapping_pages{_gfp,} does right now. Moreover, the gfp-zone flag-usage is not obvious: If you pass a modified zone, shmem core will WARN() or even BUG(). In other words, the following must be true for 'gfp' passed to shmem_read_mapping_pages_gfp(): gfp_zone(mapping_gfp_mask(mapping)) == gfp_zone(gfp) Add a comment to drm_gem_read_pages() explaining that constraint. Unfortunately this requires a drm-wide change, and I didn't see a sane way around that. Luckily it's fairly simple, we just need to inline the respective get_irq implementation from either drm_pci.c or drm_platform.c. With that we can now also remove drm_dev_to_irq from drm_irq.c. With the recent addition of locking checks in commit 62ff94a5 Author: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> AuthorDate: Thu Jan 23 22:18:47 2014 +0100 drm/crtc-helper: remove LOCKING from kerneldoc drm_add_edid_modes started to WARN about the mode_config.mutex not being held in the lvds and dp initialization code. Now since this is init code locking is fairly redudant if it wouldn't be for the drm core registering sysfs files a bit early. And the locking WARNINGs nicely enforce that indeed all access to the mode lists are properly protected. And a full audit shows that only i915 and gma500 touch the modes lists at init time. Hence I've opted to wrap up this entire mode detection sequence for fixed panels with the mode_config mutex for both lvds and edp outputs. To avoid build problems and breaking dependencies between ACPI header files, <acpi/acpi.h> should not be included directly by code outside of the ACPI core subsystem. However, that is possible if <linux/acpi_io.h> is included, because that file contains a direct inclusion of <acpi/acpi.h>. For this reason, remove the direct <acpi/acpi.h> inclusion from <linux/acpi_io.h>, move that file from include/linux/ to include/acpi/ and make <linux/acpi.h> include it for CONFIG_ACPI set along with the other ACPI header files. Accordingly, Remove the inclusions of <linux/acpi_io.h> from everywhere. Of course, that causes the contents of the new <acpi/acpi_io.h> file to be available for CONFIG_ACPI set only, so intel_opregion.o that depends on it should also depend on CONFIG_ACPI (and it really should not be compiled for CONFIG_ACPI unset anyway).
