Now that the only field in struct sys_timer is .init, delete the struct, and replace the machine descriptor .timer field with the initialization function itself. This will enable moving timer drivers into drivers/clocksource without having to place a public prototype of each struct sys_timer object into include/linux; the intent is to create a single of_clocksource_init() function that determines which timer driver to initialize by scanning the device dtree, much like the proposed irqchip_init() at: http://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg203686.html Includes mach-omap2 fixes from Igor Grinberg. sched_clock() is yet another blocker on the road to the single image. This patch implements an idea by Russell King: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-omap/msg49561.html Instead of asking the platform to implement both sched_clock() itself and the rollover callback, simply register a read() function, and let the ARM code care about sched_clock() itself, the conversion to ns and the rollover. sched_clock() uses this read() function as an indirection to the platform code. If the platform doesn't provide a read(), the code falls back to the jiffy counter (just like the default sched_clock). This allow some simplifications and possibly some footprint gain when multiple platforms are compiled in. Among the drawbacks, the removal of the *_fixed_sched_clock optimization which could negatively impact some platforms (sa1100, tegra, versatile and omap). Tested on 11MPCore, OMAP4 and Tegra. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
