The role of the only function in the common.c file in arch/arm/mach-shmobile, shmobile_init_late(), is to call two initializers whose definitions depend on kernel configuration options. Those initializers may very well be called from a static inline function in arm/mach-shmobile/include/mach/common.h, though, in which makes the code a bit easier to read. The !console_suspend_enabled check in sh7372_enter_suspend() seems to be reversed and the condition it is supposed to catch (console clock enabled) should be detected by the sh7372_sysc_valid() check anyway, so remove it. Use the function rmobile_add_devices_to_domains() introduced previously for adding devices to PM domains during the AP4EVB initialization instead of a series of rmobile_add_device_to_domain*() calls. On SH7372 and Mackerel devices are added to PM domains through a series of rmobile_add_device_to_domain_td() calls where the last argument is always the same. This is quite inefficient, so add a common function for adding devices to PM domains that reads the domain-device pairs information from a table and use it during SH7372 and Mackerel initialization. The results of adaptive latency computations in GENPD_DEV_TIMED_CALLBACK() show that the start/stop and save/restore state latencies of all devices on the Mackerel board I have tried are a little below 250 us. Therefore, if the 250 us is used as the common initial value of the latency fields in struct gpd_timing_data for all devices on Mackerel, the latency values will never have to change at run time and there won't be any overhead related to re-computation of the corresponding PM QoS data. The sh7372_enter_suspend() routine checks the status field of the generic PM domain object corresponding to the A4S domain in order to check if it can turn that domain off when entering system sleep. However, it shouldn't rely on the specific values of the generic data structures this way, so make it use its own mechanism to recognize when it is safe to turn that domain off. For this purpos, introduce a boolean variable a4s_suspend_ready that will be set by the A4S' suspend routine and unset by its resume routine executed by rmobile_pd_power_down() and __rmobile_pd_power_up(), respectively. If the r8a7779's PM domains are given names, this SoC and its boards will be able to use rmobile_add_device_to_domain() for adding devices to those domains and r8a7779_add_device_to_domain(), which is not used anywhere at the moment anyway, may be dopped. For certain speculative events on Power7, 'perf stat' reports far higher event count than 'perf record' for the same event. As described in following commit, a performance monitor exception is raised even when the the performance events are rolled back. commit 0837e324 Author: Anton Blanchard <anton@samba.org> Date: Wed Mar 9 14:38:42 2011 +1100 perf_event_interrupt() records an event only when an overflow occurs. But this check for overflow is a simple 'if (val < 0)'. Because the events are rolled back, this check for overflow fails and the event is not recorded. perf_event_interrupt() later uses pmc_overflow() to detect the overflow and resets the counters and the events are lost completely. To properly detect the overflow of rolled back events, use pmc_overflow() even when recording events. Directly comparing current->personality against PER_LINUX32 doesn't work in cases when any of the personality flags stored in the top three bytes are used. Directly forcefully setting personality to PER_LINUX32 or PER_LINUX discards any flags stored in the top three bytes Use personality() macro to compare only PER_MASK bytes and make sure that we are setting only the bits that should be set, instead of overwriting the whole value. Checking for device mask to cover the whole IOMMU table is too strict. IOMMU allocators should handle mask constraint properly for each allocation. For powerpc BooKE and e200, singlestep is handled on the critical/dbg exception stack. This causes current_thread_info() to fail for kgdb internal, so previously We work around this issue by copying the thread_info from the kernel stack before calling kgdb_handle_exception, and copying it back afterwards. But actually we don't do this properly. We should backup current_thread_info then restore that when exit. The kgdb_single_step flag has the possibility to indefinitely hang the system on an SMP system. The x86 arch have the same problem, and that problem was fixed by commit 8097551d(kgdb,x86: do not set kgdb_single_step on x86). This patch does the same behaviors as x86's patch. Since the printk internals were reworked the xmon 'dl' command which dumps the content of __log_buf has stopped working. It is now a structured buffer, so just dumping it doesn't really work. Using 'select' in Kconfig is hard, a platform cannot just enable a driver without also making sure that its subsystem is there. Also, there is no actual code dependency between the platform and the gpio leds driver. The head-v7.S contains a call to the generic cpu_suspend function, which is only available when selected by the i.MX6 code. As pointed out by Shawn Guo, i.MX5 does not actually use any functions defined in head-v7.S. It is also needed only for the i.MX6 power management code and for the SMP code, so we can restrict building this file to situations in which at least one of those two is present. Finally, other platforms with a similar file call it headsmp.S, so we can rename it to the same for consistency.
