Currently, XPC's heartbeat timer function runs on whatever CPU modprobe/insmod ran on when XPC was started. To avoid the heartbeat from being delayed for long periods the timer function must run on CPU 0. N.B. Altix doesn't currently allow cpu0 to be taken offline, so this is safe for now. This code must be revised when offline of cpu0 is enabled. Signed-off-by: NDean Nelson <dcn@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: NTony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>

This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place) arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures. The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented. I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register duplicate sysctl entries. So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future enhancments harder. Signed-off-by: NEric W. By not using the enumeration in sysctl.h (or even understanding it) the SN platform placed their arch specific xpc directory on top of CTL_KERN and only because they didn't have 4 entries in their xpc directory got lucky and didn't break glibc. This is totally irresponsible. So this patch entirely removes sys_sysctl support from their sysctl code. Hopefully they don't have ascii name conflicts as well. And now that they have no ABI numbers add them to the end instead of the sysctl list instead of the head so nothing else will be overridden. This patch eliminates a potential deadlock that is possible when XPC disconnects a channel to a partition that has gone down. This deadlock will occur if at least one of the kthreads created by XPC for the purpose of making callouts to the channel's registerer is detained in the registerer and will not be returning back to XPC until some registerer request occurs on the now downed partition. The potential for a deadlock is removed by ensuring that there always is a kthread available to make the channel disconnecting callout to the registerer. Jack Steiner identified a problem where XPC can cause a silent data corruption. On module load, the placement may cause the xpc_remote_copy_buffer to span two physical pages. DMA transfers are done to the start virtual address translated to physical. This patch changes the buffer from a statically allocated buffer to a kmalloc'd buffer. Dean Nelson reviewed this before posting. I have tested it in the configuration that was showing the memory corruption and verified it works. I also added a BUG_ON statement to help catch this if a similar situation is encountered. This patch fixes a problem in XPC disengage processing whereby it was not seeing the request to disengage from a remote partition, so the disengage wasn't happening. The disengagement is suppose to transpire during the time a XPC channel is disconnecting, and should be completed before the channel is declared to be disconnected. XPC (as in arch/ia64/sn/kernel/xp*) has a need to notify other partitions (SGI Altix) whenever a partition is going down in order to get them to disengage from accessing the halting partition's memory. If this is not done before the reset of the hardware, the other partitions can find themselves encountering MCAs that bring them down. When XPC is being shutdown (i.e., rmmod, reboot) it doesn't ensure that other partitions with whom it was connected have completely disengaged from any attempt at cross-partition memory references. This can lead to MCAs in any of these other partitions when the partition is reset. Signed-off-by: NDean Nelson <dcn@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: NTony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>
