commit d15d356887e770c5f2dcf963b52c7cb510c9e42d upstream. Currently perf callchain doesn't work well with ORC unwinder when sampling from trace point. We'll get useless in kernel callchain like this: perf 6429 [000] 22.498450: kmem:mm_page_alloc: page=0x176a17 pfn=1534487 order=0 migratetype=0 gfp_flags=GFP_KERNEL ffffffffbe23e32e __alloc_pages_nodemask+0x22e (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) 7efdf7f7d3e8 __poll+0x18 (/usr/lib64/libc-2.28.so) 5651468729c1 [unknown] (/usr/bin/perf) 5651467ee82a main+0x69a (/usr/bin/perf) 7efdf7eaf413 __libc_start_main+0xf3 (/usr/lib64/libc-2.28.so) 5541f689495641d7 [unknown] ([unknown]) The root cause is that, for trace point events, it doesn't provide a real snapshot of the hardware registers. Instead perf tries to get required caller's registers and compose a fake register snapshot which suppose to contain enough information for start a unwinding. However without CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER, if failed to get caller's BP as the frame pointer, so current frame pointer is returned instead. We get a invalid register combination which confuse the unwinder, and end the stacktrace early. So in such case just don't try dump BP, and let the unwinder start directly when the register is not a real snapshot. Use SP as the skip mark, unwinder will skip all the frames until it meet the frame of the trace point caller. Tested with frame pointer unwinder and ORC unwinder, this makes perf callchain get the full kernel space stacktrace again like this: perf 6503 [000] 1567.570191: kmem:mm_page_alloc: page=0x16c904 pfn=1493252 order=0 migratetype=0 gfp_flags=GFP_KERNEL ffffffffb523e2ae __alloc_pages_nodemask+0x22e (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb52383bd __get_free_pages+0xd (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb52fd28a __pollwait+0x8a (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb521426f perf_poll+0x2f (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb52fe3e2 do_sys_poll+0x252 (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb52ff027 __x64_sys_poll+0x37 (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb500418b do_syscall_64+0x5b (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) ffffffffb5a0008c entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44 (/lib/modules/5.1.0-rc3+/build/vmlinux) 7f71e92d03e8 __poll+0x18 (/usr/lib64/libc-2.28.so) 55a22960d9c1 [unknown] (/usr/bin/perf) 55a22958982a main+0x69a (/usr/bin/perf) 7f71e9202413 __libc_start_main+0xf3 (/usr/lib64/libc-2.28.so) 5541f689495641d7 [unknown] ([unknown]) Co-developed-by: NJosh Poimboeuf <jpoimboe@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: NKairui Song <kasong@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: NPeter Zijlstra (Intel) <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: Alexander Shishkin <alexander.shishkin@linux.intel.com> Cc: Alexei Starovoitov <alexei.starovoitov@gmail.com> Cc: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@kernel.org> Cc: Borislav Petkov <bp@alien8.de> Cc: Dave Young <dyoung@redhat.com> Cc: Jiri Olsa <jolsa@redhat.com> Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Namhyung Kim <namhyung@kernel.org> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20190422162652.15483-1-kasong@redhat.comSigned-off-by: NIngo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: NShile Zhang <shile.zhang@linux.alibaba.com> Acked-by: NJoseph Qi <joseph.qi@linux.alibaba.com>

commit 05d5a48635259e621ea26d01e8316c6feeb34190 upstream. Errata#1096: On a nested data page fault when CR.SMAP=1 and the guest data read generates a SMAP violation, GuestInstrBytes field of the VMCB on a VMEXIT will incorrectly return 0h instead the correct guest instruction bytes . Recommend Workaround: To determine what instruction the guest was executing the hypervisor will have to decode the instruction at the instruction pointer. The recommended workaround can not be implemented for the SEV guest because guest memory is encrypted with the guest specific key, and instruction decoder will not be able to decode the instruction bytes. If we hit this errata in the SEV guest then log the message and request a guest shutdown. commit c57cd3c89ecf2812976f53e494580a396f93efd2 upstream. The function svm_refresh_apicv_exec_ctrl() always returning prematurely as kvm_vcpu_apicv_active() always return false when calling from the function arch/x86/kvm/x86.c:kvm_vcpu_deactivate_apicv(). This is because the apicv_active is set to false just before calling refresh_apicv_exec_ctrl(). Also, we need to mark VMCB_AVIC bit as dirty instead of VMCB_INTR. commit 98d90582be2e08246a70af31e09950ecb8876252 upstream. Current SVM AVIC driver makes two incorrect assumptions: 1. APIC LDR register cannot be zero 2. APIC DFR for all vCPUs must be the same LDR=0 means the local APIC does not support logical destination mode. Therefore, the driver should mark any previously assigned logical APIC ID table entry as invalid, and return success. Also, DFR is specific to a particular local APIC, and can be different among all vCPUs (as observed on Windows 10). These incorrect assumptions cause Windows 10 and FreeBSD VMs to fail to boot with AVIC enabled. So, instead of flush the whole logical APIC ID table, handle DFR and LDR for each vCPU independently. commit e081354d6aa7b67c6d0ef51ff8c428b6c261a6fe upstream. Currently, the nested guest's PAUSE intercept intentions are not being honored. Instead, since the L0 hypervisor's pause_filter_count and pause_filter_thresh values are still in place, these values are used instead of those programmed in the VMCB by the L1 hypervisor. To honor the desired PAUSE intercept support of the L1 hypervisor, the L0 hypervisor must use the PAUSE filtering fields of the L1 hypervisor. This requires saving and restoring of both the L0 and L1 hypervisor's PAUSE filtering fields. commit 6017608936c1825ff5d7325270484042f597edff upstream. Add Icelake core PMU perf code, including constraint tables and the main enable code. Icelake expanded the generic counters to always 8 even with HT on, but a range of events cannot be scheduled on the extra 4 counters. Add new constraint ranges to describe this to the scheduler. The number of constraints that need to be checked is larger now than with earlier CPUs. At some point we may need a new data structure to look them up more efficiently than with linear search. So far it still seems to be acceptable however. Icelake added a new fixed counter SLOTS. Full support for it is added later in the patch series. The cache events table is identical to Skylake. Compare to PEBS instruction event on generic counter, fixed counter 0 has less skid. Force instruction:ppp always in fixed counter 0. commit 63b79f6ebc464afb730bc45762c820795e276da1 upstream. Icelake extended the general counters to 8, even when SMT is enabled. However only a (large) subset of the events can be used on all 8 counters. The events that can or cannot be used on all counters are organized in ranges. A lot of scheduler constraints are required to handle all this. To avoid blowing up the tables add event code ranges to the constraint tables, and a new inline function to match them. commit c22497f5838c237e3094a4dfb99d1c5de6353239 upstream. Adaptive PEBS is a new way to report PEBS sampling information. Instead of a fixed size record for all PEBS events it allows to configure the PEBS record to only include the information needed. Events can then opt in to use such an extended record, or stay with a basic record which only contains the IP. The major new feature is to support LBRs in PEBS record. Besides normal LBR, this allows (much faster) large PEBS, while still supporting callstacks through callstack LBR. So essentially a lot of profiling can now be done without frequent interrupts, dropping the overhead significantly. The main requirement still is to use a period, and not use frequency mode, because frequency mode requires reevaluating the frequency on each overflow. The floating point state (XMM) is also supported, which allows efficient profiling of FP function arguments. Introduce specific drain function to handle variable length records. Use a new callback to parse the new record format, and also handle the STATUS field now being at a different offset. Add code to set up the configuration register. Since there is only a single register, all events either get the full super set of all events, or only the basic record. commit 878068ea270ea82767ff1d26c91583263c81fba0 upstream. Starting from Icelake, XMM registers can be collected in PEBS record. But current code only output the pt_regs. Add a new struct x86_perf_regs for both pt_regs and xmm_regs. The xmm_regs will be used later to keep a pointer to PEBS record which has XMM information. XMM registers are 128 bit. To simplify the code, they are handled like two different registers, which means setting two bits in the register bitmap. This also allows only sampling the lower 64bit bits in XMM. The index of XMM registers starts from 32. There are 16 XMM registers. So all reserved space for regs are used. Remove REG_RESERVED. Add PERF_REG_X86_XMM_MAX, which stands for the max number of all x86 regs including both GPRs and XMM. Add REG_NOSUPPORT for 32bit to exclude unsupported registers. Previous platforms can not collect XMM information in PEBS record. Adding pebs_no_xmm_regs to indicate the unsupported platforms. The common code still validates the supported registers. However, it cannot check model specific registers, e.g. XMM. Add extra check in x86_pmu_hw_config() to reject invalid config of regs_user and regs_intr. The regs_user never supports XMM collection. The regs_intr only supports XMM collection when sampling PEBS event on icelake and later platforms. commit 1a0a610d5f056c6195ae9808962477a94d1d72c8 upstream. Commit 3f8fd02b1bf1 ("mm/vmalloc: Sync unmappings in __purge_vmap_area_lazy()") introduced a call to vmalloc_sync_all() in the vunmap() code-path. While this change was necessary to maintain correctness on x86-32-pae kernels, it also adds additional cycles for architectures that don't need it. Specifically on x86-64 with CONFIG_VMAP_STACK=y some people reported severe performance regressions in micro-benchmarks because it now also calls the x86-64 implementation of vmalloc_sync_all() on vunmap(). But the vmalloc_sync_all() implementation on x86-64 is only needed for newly created mappings. To avoid the unnecessary work on x86-64 and to gain the performance back, split up vmalloc_sync_all() into two functions: * vmalloc_sync_mappings(), and * vmalloc_sync_unmappings() Most call-sites to vmalloc_sync_all() only care about new mappings being synchronized. The only exception is the new call-site added in the above mentioned commit. Shile Zhang directed us to a report of an 80% regression in reaim throughput. commit 7af0145067bc429a09ac4047b167c0971c9f0dc7 upstream. ftrace does not use text_poke() for enabling trace functionality. It uses its own mechanism and flips the whole kernel text to RW and back to RO. The CPA rework removed a loop based check of 4k pages which tried to preserve a large page by checking each 4k page whether the change would actually cover all pages in the large page. This resulted in endless loops for nothing as in testing it turned out that it actually never preserved anything. Of course testing missed to include ftrace, which is the one and only case which benefitted from the 4k loop. As a consequence enabling function tracing or ftrace based kprobes results in a full 4k split of the kernel text, which affects iTLB performance. The kernel RO protection is the only valid case where this can actually preserve large pages. All other static protections (RO data, data NX, PCI, BIOS) are truly static. So a conflict with those protections which results in a split should only ever happen when a change of memory next to a protected region is attempted. But these conflicts are rightfully splitting the large page to preserve the protected regions. In fact a change to the protected regions itself is a bug and is warned about. Add an exception for the static protection check for kernel text RO when the to be changed region spawns a full large page which allows to preserve the large mappings. This also prevents the syslog to be spammed about CPA violations when ftrace is used. The exception needs to be removed once ftrace switched over to text_poke() which avoids the whole issue. commit 585948f4f695b07204702cfee0f828424af32aa7 upstream. The extra loop which tries hard to preserve large pages in case of conflicts with static protection regions turns out to be not preserving anything, at least not in the experiments which have been conducted. There might be corner cases in which the code would be able to preserve a large page oaccsionally, but it's really not worth the extra code and the cycles wasted in the common case. commit 9cc9f17a5a0a8564b41b7c5c460e7f078c42d712 upstream. To avoid excessive 4k wise checks in the common case do a quick check first whether the requested new page protections conflict with a static protection area in the large page. If there is no conflict then the decision whether to preserve or to split the page can be made immediately. If the requested range covers the full large page, preserve it. Otherwise split it up. No point in doing a slow crawl in 4k steps. commit 1c4b406ee89c2c4210f2e19b97d39215f445c316 upstream. When the existing mapping is correct and the new requested page protections are the same as the existing ones, then further checks can be omitted and the large page can be preserved. The slow path 4k wise check will not come up with a different result. commit f61c5ba2885eabc7bc4b0b2f5232f475216ba446 upstream. With the range check it is possible to do a quick verification that the current mapping is correct vs. the static protection areas. In case a incorrect mapping is detected a warning is emitted and the large page is split up. If the large page is a 2M page, then the split code is forced to check the static protections for the PTE entries to fix up the incorrectness. For 1G pages this can't be done easily because that would require to either find the offending 2M areas before the split or afterwards. For now just warn about that case and revisit it when reported. commit 4046460b867f8b041c81c26c09d3bcad6d6e814e upstream. The whole static protection magic is silently fixing up anything which is handed in. That's just wrong. The offending call sites need to be fixed. Add a debug mechanism which emits a warning if a requested mapping needs to be fixed up. The DETECT debug mechanism is really not meant to be enabled except for developers, so limit the output hard to the protection fixups. commit 91ee8f5c1f50a1f4096c178a93a8da46ce3f6cc8 upstream. Checking static protections only page by page is slow especially for huge pages. To allow quick checks over a complete range, add the ability to do that. Make the checks inclusive so the ranges can be directly used for debug output later. No functional change.
