Both tables on this rst file were not shown right, as they miss the proper tag (tabularcolumns) to specify the column widths required for PDF and LaTeX output. Since commit 63a4cc24, bio->bi_rw contains flags in the lower portion and the op code in the higher portions. This means that old code that relies on manually setting bi_rw is most likely going to be broken. Instead of letting that brokeness linger, rename the member, to force old and out-of-tree code to break at compile time instead of at runtime. No intended functional changes in this commit. The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Blacklisting a module in linux has long been a problem. The current procedure is to use rd.blacklist=module_name, however, that doesn't cover the case after the initramfs and before a boot prompt (where one is supposed to use /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf to blacklist runtime loading). Using rd.shell to get an early prompt is hit-or-miss, and doesn't cover all situations AFAICT. This patch adds this functionality of permanently blacklisting a module by its name via the kernel parameter module_blacklist=module_name. Add PCIe Maximum Read Request Size (MRRS) adjustment parameter to allow users to override configuration register value set during PCIe bus initialization. Performance of Tsi721 device as PCIe bus master can be improved if MRRS is set to its maximum value (4096 bytes). Some platforms have limitations for supported MRRS and therefore the default value should be preserved, unless it is known that given platform supports full set of MRRS values defined by PCI Express specification. Depending on application, performance of DMA data transfers can benefit from adjusted sizes of buffer descriptor ring and/or transaction requests queue. Add channelized messaging driver to support native RapidIO messaging exchange between multiple senders/recipients on devices that use kernel RapidIO subsystem services. This device driver is the result of collaboration within the RapidIO.org Software Task Group (STG) between Texas Instruments, Prodrive Technologies, Nokia Networks, BAE and IDT. Additional input was received from other members of RapidIO.org. The objective was to create a character mode driver interface which exposes messaging capabilities of RapidIO endpoint devices (mports) directly to applications, in a manner that allows the numerous and varied RapidIO implementations to interoperate. This char mode device driver allows user-space applications to setup messaging communication channels using single shared RapidIO messaging mailbox. The header file "include/linux/nilfs2_fs.h" is composed of parts for ioctl and disk format, and both are intended to be shared with user space programs. This moves them to the uapi directory "include/uapi/linux" splitting the file to "nilfs2_api.h" and "nilfs2_ondisk.h". The following minor changes are accompanied by this migration: - nilfs_direct_node struct in nilfs2/direct.h is converged to nilfs2_ondisk.h because it's an on-disk structure. - inline functions nilfs_rec_len_from_disk() and nilfs_rec_len_to_disk() are moved to nilfs2/dir.c. Add a "printk.devkmsg" kernel command line parameter which controls how userspace writes into /dev/kmsg. It has three options: * ratelimit - ratelimit logging from userspace. * on - unlimited logging from userspace * off - logging from userspace gets ignored The default setting is to ratelimit the messages written to it. This changes the kernel default setting of "on" to "ratelimit" and we do that because we want to keep userspace spamming /dev/kmsg to sane levels. This is especially moot when a small kernel log buffer wraps around and messages get lost. So the ratelimiting setting should be a sane setting where kernel messages should have a bit higher chance of survival from all the spamming. It additionally does not limit logging to /dev/kmsg while the system is booting if we haven't disabled it on the command line. Furthermore, we can control the logging from a lower priority sysctl interface - kernel.printk_devkmsg. That interface will succeed only if printk.devkmsg *hasn't* been supplied on the command line. If it has, then printk.devkmsg is a one-time setting which remains for the duration of the system lifetime. This "locking" of the setting is to prevent userspace from changing the logging on us through sysctl(2). This patch is based on previous patches from Linus and Steven. Buck and LDO binding name changes. The binding names for the regulators have been changed to match the current expectation from existing device tree source files. This fix rectifies the disparity between what currently exists in some .dts[i] board files and what is listed in this binding document. This change re-aligns those differences and also brings the binding document in-line with the expectations of the product datasheet from Dialog Semiconductor. Node-based reclaim requires node-based LRUs and locking. This is a preparation patch that just moves the lru_lock to the node so later patches are easier to review. It is a mechanical change but note this patch makes contention worse because the LRU lock is hotter and direct reclaim and kswapd can contend on the same lock even when reclaiming from different zones. The idea borrowed from Peter's patch from patchset on speculative page faults[1]: Instead of passing around the endless list of function arguments, replace the lot with a single structure so we can change context without endless function signature changes. The changes are mostly mechanical with exception of faultaround code: filemap_map_pages() got reworked a bit. This patch is preparation for the next one. We have allowed migration for only LRU pages until now and it was enough to make high-order pages. But recently, embedded system(e.g., webOS, android) uses lots of non-movable pages(e.g., zram, GPU memory) so we have seen several reports about troubles of small high-order allocation. For fixing the problem, there were several efforts (e,g,. enhance compaction algorithm, SLUB fallback to 0-order page, reserved memory, vmalloc and so on) but if there are lots of non-movable pages in system, their solutions are void in the long run. So, this patch is to support facility to change non-movable pages with movable. For the feature, this patch introduces functions related to migration to address_space_operations as well as some page flags. If a driver want to make own pages movable, it should define three functions which are function pointers of struct address_space_operations. 1. bool (*isolate_page) (struct page *page, isolate_mode_t mode); What VM expects on isolate_page function of driver is to return *true* if driver isolates page successfully. On returing true, VM marks the page as PG_isolated so concurrent isolation in several CPUs skip the page for isolation. If a driver cannot isolate the page, it should return *false*. Once page is successfully isolated, VM uses page.lru fields so driver shouldn't expect to preserve values in that fields. 2. int (*migratepage) (struct address_space *mapping, struct page *newpage, struct page *oldpage, enum migrate_mode); After isolation, VM calls migratepage of driver with isolated page. The function of migratepage is to move content of the old page to new page and set up fields of struct page newpage. Keep in mind that you should indicate to the VM the oldpage is no longer movable via __ClearPageMovable() under page_lock if you migrated the oldpage successfully and returns 0. If driver cannot migrate the page at the moment, driver can return -EAGAIN. On -EAGAIN, VM will retry page migration in a short time because VM interprets -EAGAIN as "temporal migration failure". On returning any error except -EAGAIN, VM will give up the page migration without retrying in this time. Driver shouldn't touch page.lru field VM using in the functions. 3. void (*putback_page)(struct page *); If migration fails on isolated page, VM should return the isolated page to the driver so VM calls driver's putback_page with migration failed page. In this function, driver should put the isolated page back to the own data structure. 4. non-lru movable page flags There are two page flags for supporting non-lru movable page. * PG_movable Driver should use the below function to make page movable under page_lock. void __SetPageMovable(struct page *page, struct address_space *mapping) It needs argument of address_space for registering migration family functions which will be called by VM. Exactly speaking, PG_movable is not a real flag of struct page. Rather than, VM reuses page->mapping's lower bits to represent it. #define PAGE_MAPPING_MOVABLE 0x2 page->mapping = page->mapping | PAGE_MAPPING_MOVABLE; so driver shouldn't access page->mapping directly. Instead, driver should use page_mapping which mask off the low two bits of page->mapping so it can get right struct address_space. For testing of non-lru movable page, VM supports __PageMovable function. However, it doesn't guarantee to identify non-lru movable page because page->mapping field is unified with other variables in struct page. As well, if driver releases the page after isolation by VM, page->mapping doesn't have stable value although it has PAGE_MAPPING_MOVABLE (Look at __ClearPageMovable). But __PageMovable is cheap to catch whether page is LRU or non-lru movable once the page has been isolated. Because LRU pages never can have PAGE_MAPPING_MOVABLE in page->mapping. It is also good for just peeking to test non-lru movable pages before more expensive checking with lock_page in pfn scanning to select victim. For guaranteeing non-lru movable page, VM provides PageMovable function. Unlike __PageMovable, PageMovable functions validates page->mapping and mapping->a_ops->isolate_page under lock_page. The lock_page prevents sudden destroying of page->mapping. Driver using __SetPageMovable should clear the flag via __ClearMovablePage under page_lock before the releasing the page. * PG_isolated To prevent concurrent isolation among several CPUs, VM marks isolated page as PG_isolated under lock_page. So if a CPU encounters PG_isolated non-lru movable page, it can skip it. Driver doesn't need to manipulate the flag because VM will set/clear it automatically. Keep in mind that if driver sees PG_isolated page, it means the page have been isolated by VM so it shouldn't touch page.lru field. PG_isolated is alias with PG_reclaim flag so driver shouldn't use the flag for own purpose. There is no way to get a string with all the crypto comp algorithms supported by the crypto comp engine, so we need to maintain our own backends list. At the same time we additionally need to use crypto_has_comp() to make sure that the user has requested a compression algorithm that is recognized by the crypto comp engine. Relying on /proc/crypto is not an options here, because it does not show not-yet-inserted compression modules. Example: modprobe zram cat /proc/crypto | grep -i lz4 modprobe lz4 cat /proc/crypto | grep -i lz4 name : lz4 driver : lz4-generic module : lz4 So the user can't tell exactly if the lz4 is really supported from /proc/crypto output, unless someone or something has loaded it. This patch also adds crypto_has_comp() to zcomp_available_show(). We store all the compression algorithms names in zcomp's `backends' array, regardless the CONFIG_CRYPTO_FOO configuration, but show only those that are also supported by crypto engine. This helps user to know the exact list of compression algorithms that can be used. Example: module lz4 is not loaded yet, but is supported by the crypto engine. /proc/crypto has no information on this module, while zram's `comp_algorithm' lists it: cat /proc/crypto | grep -i lz4 cat /sys/block/zram0/comp_algorithm [lzo] lz4 deflate lz4hc 842 We still use the `backends' array to determine if the requested compression backend is known to crypto api. This array, however, may not contain some entries, therefore as the last step we call crypto_has_comp() function which attempts to insmod the requested compression algorithm to determine if crypto api supports it. The advantage of this method is that now we permit the usage of out-of-tree crypto compression modules (implementing S/W or H/W compression).
