[ Upstream commit e0d2615856b2046c2e8d5bfd6933f37f69703b0b ] If the re-allocation of tep->cmdlines succeeds, then the previous allocation of tep->cmdlines will be freed. If we later fail in add_new_comm(), we must not free cmdlines, and also should assign tep->cmdlines to the new allocation. Otherwise when freeing tep, the tep->cmdlines will be pointing to garbage. [ Upstream commit f32c2877bcb068a718bb70094cd59ccc29d4d082 ] There was a missing comparison with 0 when checking if type is "s64" or "u64". Therefore, the body of the if-statement was entered if "type" was "u64" or not "s64", which made the first strcmp() redundant since if type is "u64", it's not "s64". If type is "s64", the body of the if-statement is not entered but since the remainder of the function consists of if-statements which will not be entered if type is "s64", we will just return "val", which is correct, albeit at the cost of a few more calls to strcmp(), i.e., it will behave just as if the if-statement was entered. If type is neither "s64" or "u64", the body of the if-statement will be entered incorrectly and "val" returned. This means that any type that is checked after "s64" and "u64" is handled the same way as "s64" and "u64", i.e., the limiting of "val" to fit in for example "s8" is never reached. This was introduced in the kernel tree when the sources were copied from trace-cmd in commit f7d82350 ("tools/events: Add files to create libtraceevent.a"), and in the trace-cmd repo in 1cdbae6035cei ("Implement typecasting in parser") when the function was introduced, i.e., it has always behaved the wrong way. The overflow is when trying to evaluate "1ULL << (64 - 1)" which is resulting in -9223372036854775808 which overflows the 20 character buffer. In the case that a bprintk event has a dereferenced pointer that is stored as a string, and there's more values to process (more args), the arg was not updated to point to the next arg after processing the dereferenced pointer, and it screwed up what was to be displayed. The Linux kernel printf() has some extended use cases that dereference the pointer. This is dangerouse for tracing because the pointer that is dereferenced can change or even be unmapped. It also causes issues when the trace data is extracted, because user space does not have access to the contents of the pointer even if it still exists. To handle this, the kernel was updated to process these dereferenced pointers at the time they are recorded, and not post processed. Now they exist in the tracing buffer, and no dereference is needed at the time of reading the trace. The event parsing library needs to handle this new case. When processing %pX in pretty_print(), simplify the logic slightly by incrementing the ptr to the format string if isalnum(ptr[1]) is true. This follows the logic a bit more closely to what is in the kernel. Also, this fixes a small bug where %pF was not giving the offset of the function. Commit a6745330 ("tools lib traceevent: Split pevent_print_event() into specific functionality functions") broke apart the function pevent_print_event() into three functions. The first function prints the comm, pid and CPU, the second prints the timestamp. But that commit added the printing of the CPU in the timestamp function, which now causes pevent_print_event() to duplicate the CPU output. Remove the redundant printing of the record's CPU from the timestamp function.
