As of Skylake Server, there are a number of free running counters in each IIO Box that collect counts of per-box IO clocks and per-port Input/Output x BW/Utilization. The free running counters cannot be part of the existing IIO BOX, because, quoting from Peter Zijlstra: "This will result in some (probably) unexpected scheduling artifacts. Probably the only way to really cure that is to have the free running counters in their own PMU and not share with the GP counters of this box." So let's add a new PMU for the free running counters, as suggested. The free-running counter is read-only and always active. Counting will be suspended only when the IIO Box is powered down. There are three types of IIO free-running counters on Skylake server, IO CLOCKS counter, BANDWIDTH counters and UTILIZATION counters. IO CLOCKS counter is a clock of IIO box. BANDWIDTH counters are to count inbound(PCIe->CPU)/outbound(CPU->PCIe) bandwidth. UTILIZATION counters are to count input/output utilization. The bit width of the free-running counters is 36-bits. SBOX on some Broadwell CPUs is broken because it's enabled unconditionally despite the fact that there are no SBOXes available. Check the Power Control Unit CAPID4 register to determine the number of available SBOXes on the particular CPU before trying to enable them. If there are none, nullify the SBOX descriptor so it isn't tried to be initialized. The number of CHAs is miscalculated on multi-domain PCI Skylake server systems, resulting in an uncore driver initialization error. Gary Kroening explains: "For systems with a single PCI segment, it is sufficient to look for the bus number to change in order to determine that all of the CHa's have been counted for a single socket. However, for multi PCI segment systems, each socket is given a new segment and the bus number does NOT change. So looking only for the bus number to change ends up counting all of the CHa's on all sockets in the system. This leads to writing CPU MSRs beyond a valid range and causes an error in ivbep_uncore_msr_init_box()." To fix this bug, query the number of CHAs from the CAPID6 register: it should read bits 27:0 in the CAPID6 register located at Device 30, Function 3, Offset 0x9C. These 28 bits form a bit vector of available LLC slices and the CHAs that manage those slices. The SNB-EP uncore driver is the only user of topology_phys_to_logical_pkg in a performance critical path. Change it query the logical pkg ID only once at initialization time and then cache it in box structure. This allows to change the logical package management without affecting the performance critical path. Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. hswep_uncore_cpu_init() uses a hardcoded physical package id 0 for the boot cpu. This works as long as the boot CPU is actually on the physical package 0, which is normaly the case after power on / reboot. But it fails with a NULL pointer dereference when a kdump kernel is started on a secondary socket which has a different physical package id because the locigal package translation for physical package 0 does not exist. Use the logical package id of the boot cpu instead of hard coded 0. Jiri reported the overlap scheduling exceeding its max stack. Looking at the constraint that triggered this, it turns out the overlap marker isn't needed. The comment with EVENT_CONSTRAINT_OVERLAP states: "This is the case if the counter mask of such an event is not a subset of any other counter mask of a constraint with an equal or higher weight". Esp. that latter part is of interest here I think, our overlapping mask is 0x0e, that has 3 bits set and is the highest weight mask in on the PMU, therefore it will be placed last. Can we still create a scenario where we would need to rewind that? The scenario for AMD Fam15h is we're having masks like: 0x3F -- 111111 0x38 -- 111000 0x07 -- 000111 0x09 -- 001001 And we mark 0x09 as overlapping, because it is not a direct subset of 0x38 or 0x07 and has less weight than either of those. This means we'll first try and place the 0x09 event, then try and place 0x38/0x07 events. Now imagine we have: 3 * 0x07 + 0x09 and the initial pick for the 0x09 event is counter 0, then we'll fail to place all 0x07 events. So we'll pop back, try counter 4 for the 0x09 event, and then re-try all 0x07 events, which will now work. The masks on the PMU in question are: 0x01 - 0001 0x03 - 0011 0x0e - 1110 0x0c - 1100 But since all the masks that have overlap (0xe -> {0xc,0x3}) and (0x3 -> 0x1) are of heavier weight, it should all work out. This patch implements the uncore monitoring driver for Skylake server. The uncore subsystem in Skylake server is similar to previous server. There are some differences in config register encoding and pci device IDs. Besides, Skylake introduces many new boxes to reflect the MESH architecture changes. The control registers for IIO and UPI have been extended to 64 bit. This patch also introduces event_mask_ext to handle the high 32 bit mask. The CHA box number could vary for different machines. This patch gets the CHA box number by counting the CHA register space during initialization at runtime. The method to build PCI bus to socket mapping is similar among platforms. However, the PCI location which stores Node ID mapping could vary between different platforms. For example, the Node ID mapping address on Skylake server is different from the previous platform. Also, to build the mapping for the PCI bus without UBOX, it has to start from bus 0 on Skylake server. This patch removes the current hardcoded implementation and adds three parameters for snbep_pci2phy_map_init(). This way the Node ID mapping address and bus searching direction can be configured according to different platforms. Some uncore boxes' num_counters value for Haswell server and Broadwell server are not correct (too large, off by one). This issue was found by comparing the code with the document. Although there is no bug report from users yet, accessing non-existent counters is dangerous and the behavior is undefined: it may cause miscounting or even crashes. This patch makes them consistent with the uncore document. Some platforms, e.g. Knights Landing, use a common PCI device ID for multiple instances of an uncore PMU device type. So it is impossible to locate the specific instances only by PCI device ID. The current code specially handles Knights Landing by arbitrarily pointing an instance to an unused uncore box. However, we still have no idea which uncore device is mapped to which box. Furthermore, there could be more platforms which use a common PCI device ID for uncore devices. We have to specially handle them one by one. This patch records full device information (slot, func, and device ID) in id_table[]. So the probe function can point the instance to a specific uncore box by checking the full device information. There was a report that on certain Broadwell-EP systems writing any bit of the SBOX PMU initialization MSR would #GP at boot. This did not happen on all systems. My test systems booted fine. Considering both DE and EP may have such issues, this patch removes SBOX support for all Broadwell platforms for now. The ev_sel_ext in PCU_MSR_PMON_CTL is locked on some CPU models, so despite it being documented in the SDM, if we write 1 to that bit then we can get a #GP fault. Which #GP the perf fuzzer happily triggered in Peter Zijlstra's testing. Also, there are no public events which use that bit, so remove ev_sel_ext bit support for PCU. Uncore is a per package facility, but the code tries to mimick a per CPU facility with completely convoluted constructs. Simplify the whole machinery by tracking per package information. While at it, avoid the kfree/alloc dance when a CPU goes offline and online again. There is no point in freeing the box after it was allocated. We just keep proper refcounting and the first CPU which comes online in a package does the initialization/activation of the box. Knights Landing uncore performance monitoring (perfmon) is derived from Haswell-EP uncore perfmon with several differences. One notable difference is in PCI device IDs. Knights Landing uses common PCI device ID for multiple instances of an uncore PMU device type. In Haswell-EP, each instance of a PMU device type has a unique device ID. Knights Landing uncore components that have performance monitoring units are UBOX, CHA, EDC, MC, M2PCIe, IRP and PCU. Perfmon registers in EDC, MC, IRP, and M2PCIe reside in the PCIe configuration space. Perfmon registers in UBOX, CHA and PCU are accessed via the MSR interface. The DEFINE_PCI_DEVICE_TABLE() macro is deprecated. Use 'struct pci_device_id' instead of DEFINE_PCI_DEVICE_TABLE(), with the goal of getting rid of this macro completely. The pci_dev_put() function tests whether its argument is NULL and then returns immediately. Thus the test around the call is not needed. This issue was detected by using the Coccinelle software.
