There are unnecessary #include <ctype.h> out there, and they might cause a nasty build failure in some environment. As we already have most of ctype macros in util.h, just get rid of them. A few of exceptions are util/symbol.c which needs isupper() macro util.h doesn't provide and perl scripting support code which includes ctype.h internally. Resolving the sample->id to an evsel since the most advanced tools, report and annotate, and the others will too when they evolve to properly support multi-event perf.data files. Good also because it does an extra validation, checking that the ID is valid when present. When that is not the case, the overhead is just a branch + function call (perf_evlist__id2evsel). Both python_scripting_ops and perl_scripting_ops have two global definitions. One in trace-event-scripting.c and one in their respective scripting-engine modules. The issue is that depending on the linker order one definition or the other is chosen. One is uninitialized (bss), while the other is initialized. If the uninitialized version is chosen, then perf does not function properly. This patch fixes this by adding the extern prefix to the definitions in trace-event-scripting.c. Cc: David S.
